interesting post: but i find this difficult to implement. sometimes i get too enmeshed in what i'm doing to step back and see things objectively.
this was an appropriate reminder for me, thanx. your blog is really helpful.

Your teacher was illustrating how scientists see things differently. To me, the most scientific response to the picture was yours. Perhaps it was the only objective response in the class. I just find that interesting since he was trying to prove a point about science.

Hi Erin,

Thanks for the post! it's very simple and at the same time very interesting (simple + good = twice good) :):)

I don't know how or why we are so customary, since childhood, to think that if one must win another has to lose. This thought has caused a lot of problems through the history (minor and major conflicts, even wars) although I must be fair because it's necessary to say that this not the only reason for those problems, but in some sense it's their seed.

In religion (a field for which I'm really passionate) this is particularly painful. In every century humans has killed other humans because they believe that 'our God is true and yours not' or 'our God is good and yours evil'. It will be wonderful when all the religions of the world recognize that, in essence, everyone is following the same principle :) That moment will be a giant step towards world peace because people will stop killing 'in the name of God'. :)

BTW, I'm sure those time will come, but I don't know when. ;-)

Hi Erin,

I'm quite like that too! Often, when I'm asked to do something at work, or even the case when I was at school, I always ended up seeing the task in a different way to everyone else and doing something different to the rest of the class/at work with my colleagues!

I remember once, my Economics Lecturer, deliberately put an assignment on the board with a mistake on it, I was the only one that spotted the mistake and did the assignment correctly, whereas all the other students didn't spot the mistake, the took the assignment literally and so did it backwards so to speak.

It's great seeing things with new eyes and from multiple angles! :)

“See without presupposing. Who knows what you’ll see when you stop looking with your expectations and start seeing with your heart.”

I think that is how kids see things. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just switch from out adult view to kids view? I bet we would be shocked at the difference between the two. As usual, nice post Erin.
