Chakras

I knew about chakras growing up, but I didn’t fully understand what they were and how I could use them in my life until earlier this year. Now that I’m clear on what they are and what I’m supposed to do with them, I wish I had learned sooner. They’ve become an instrumental tool in helping me do intuitive readings for people. Let’s explore the chakras and see what they’re all about, and how to keep them spinning clearly.
Chakra Definition
What is a chakra? Wikipedia’s definition is: The chakras are thought to vitalise the physical body and to be associated with interactions of a physical, emotional and mental nature. They are considered loci of life energy, or prana, (also called shakti, or chi), which is thought to flow among them along pathways called nadis. The function of the chakras is to spin and draw in this Universal Life Force Energy to keep the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical health of the body in balance.
My definition is simply that chakras are energy centers located in the body with corresponding locations in your ethereal or astral body that act as conduits or connectors between you and Source. Each chakra is responsible for a different aspect of Source connection.
In a nutshell, chakras are energy centers in the body.
Chakras 101: Location, color and function
There are 7 major chakras, but really there are many more, including some that reside outside of our physical and etheric bodies. But for now, we’ll just talk about the major 7. Here is a list of their location, color and function, starting at the bottom and working our way up.
Name: Root Chakra
Color: Red
Location: Some people say the soles of the feet, others say it’s around the genitals. When you’re sitting in the Lotus position, that’s roughly the same place.
Function:Â This chakra represents the physical, root, survival, security, your base
Name: Sacral Chakra
Color: Orange
Location:Â The groin area, lower abdomen.
Function: Emotions, sexual energy, creativity
Name: Solar Plexus
Color: Yellow
Location: The stomach or gut
Function: Personal power, control, freedom, mental energy
Name: Heart Chakra
Color: Green
Location: Heart and lung area
Function: Love, compassion, empathy, healing
Name: Throat Chakra
Color: Blue
Location: Throat
Function: Communication, expression, speech
Name: Third Eye
Color: Indigo/purple
Location: Right between your eyebrows
Function: Intuition, psychic abilities, clairvoyance
Name: Crown chakra
Color:Â White or Violet
Location: Top of your head
Function: Consciousness, connection to the divine
Â
Clogged Chakras
The way I like to think about chakras is that they are sockets. You can plug a loving tendril from Source into each one and let that divine energy fill you up. But sometimes chakras can get clogged, and when your chakras aren’t clear and spinning freely, you’re likely to have problems in the area where you’re clogged. For example, if your heart chakra is clogged, you probably feel very disconnected from other people. If your third eye is clogged, your intuition is probably not getting through. If your crown chakra is clogged, you probably feel disconnected from God (Source). If your solar plexus chakra is clogged, you probably feel scared or victimized. A clogged throat chakra can feel like you’re being suppressed or you’ve got something you want to say that you’re not saying.Â
Clogged chakras can cause physical problems related to the area where they function. For example, if someone is intimidating you, you might have digestive issues in your solar plexus (i.e. nervous stomach). If there is someone you really need to talk to but you just can’t bring yourself to do it, you may end up with a sore throat. Clogged intuition could result in a headache. And so on.Â
If you are empathic or psychic, you may be attracting other people’s emotions and issues to you like a magnet. Other people’s issues might stick to you because you don’t release them, and that can cause your chakras to get a little clogged as well. There is no earthly reason to carry around someone else’s burdens or pain. You’re just gumming up your own system.
Some people unconsciously (or even consciously) close their chakras because they are afraid of the connection they are feeling to themselves, other people, or the divine. This is what happened to me in my 20’s when I decided to turn off my psychic abilities so I could be normal. When I finally got back to opening them up, there was a lot of accumulated fear and gunk that needed to be cleaned out. It was quite a task, but I did it.
Cleansing the Chakras
So how do you clean up your chakras and get them spinning energetically? There are many ways to do it; everyone I speak to has their own method. There is no one right or wrong way, so I’ll share my method with you, but please find the method that works best for you. Experiment before you adopt one single method.
Sit quietly in a chair or lay down. I like to listen to meditation music but that’s not required. You could even light a candle. Knock yourself out. Locate your root chakra and imagine a red energy spinning clockwise in that location. (If you’re above your body and looking down and there is a pole running through your head and out your feet, spin it clockwise around this pole). Use the centrifugal force of the spin to remove and clear any dark spots or psychic gunk that has accumulated there. Just imagine it all spinning away. When that chakra is spinning with clear, red energy, you’re done. Move your awareness to the next chakra, the sacral chakra, and do the same thing. Spin it clockwise, imagining an orange light whirling around that imaginary pole running through your body. Clear it and move to the next chakra. Do this all the way to your crown chakra. At the end I like to pour white light all around my body, and sometimes I add golden light for protection, or green light for healing.
Cleansing your chakras should only take a few minutes. If you do this every day, you’ll notice less and less psychic gunk and you can get them clear really fast (30 seconds or so).
The Benefits of Clean Chakras
Why bother with all this chakra cleansing stuff right? I mean, I went through more than 30 years of my life without clearing a single chakra and I’m no worse off, right? Wrong. If you asked me when I was 30 how important the chakras are to good overall physical and psychic health I would have said they were fictitious energy centers in the body that new age people play around with for fun. Now I have to eat those words.Â
Back in January 2006 when my guides told me I had a choice to make (use my abilities to help people or be forever locked in my own fear), one of the first things I had to do was re-open my heart chakra. That was the key chakra for me, it might be different for you. I had closed off my connection to other people because it hurt me too much to watch people suffer and not be able to do anything about it. So my guides sent me a lovely gift. For about 30 seconds, they opened my heart chakra so wide that it engulfed the entire planet, and they allowed me to feel the suffering and pain of all the people in the world. It shook me to my core. Feeling all that pain and suffering and hearing people’s souls crying out for help overwhelmed me and I started sobbing immediately. And my guides said to me, “If you could alleviate their suffering and help them, would you?” And I replied, “Yes, yes, if I can help them then I must.” And then they closed my heart chakra again. That glimpse was a catalyst for me. I asked a friend how to re-open my chakras and she told me the method I’ve shared with you. Clearing out my chakras the first time took a lot of time and energy. So many years of accumulated dust had taken their toll. But I did it. And that’s when my psychic abilities began manifesting. I developed clairvoyance, clairaudience, and claircognizance in short order.Â
Cleansing my chakras became a daily ritual. Before any reading that I do, I clear out my own chakras and get them spinning fast and energetically. I plug into Source and bring in extra energy so I can reach the higher realms where angels and ascended masters reside. I’m also able to sense what’s going on in the chakras of the people I’m reading for. I can see where they are closed up, clogged up, or out of balance. It’s become a very useful tool for me in diagnosing spiritual ailments. Believe me, I know how that sounds. But it works time and time again so I don’t question it anymore.
Summary
Chakras are a powerful connection between your body, your etheric body, and Source. Keeping them healthy and clear will bring you balance, good health, and stronger intuitive connections. Just one minute a day is all it takes. Take care of your chakras and allow them to help you reconnect with Source.

[...] I understand why if you’ve never had a paranormal experience as intense as the ones I’ve experienced that your ability to believe they are real would have to be based on faith alone. The simple answer is that if something demonic is attacking you, you don’t really have time to question whether it is possible, you have to react to it. You figure out afterwards what the heck it was. I’m not quite sure what you mean by my beliefs. I would say it’s my experience that determines what I believe, not the other way around. Like I mentioned in my Chakras blog entry, until I was well into my 30’s I thought the whole chakra thing was a bunch of new age nothing. But I was willing to check it out for myself, and lo and behold, there really was something to them. My main philosophy in life is that anything is possible. When we decide what is we close our mind to the possibilities of what may be. And when you’re staring down the business end of a demon, you don’t really have time to phone a theology professor. __________________ Erin Pavlina, Psychic Medium "Remember Where You Came From" Book a Reading | Read Testimonials| Readings FAQ [...]

[...] ERIN: One of the reasons women, especially, gain weight around their midsection is due to the build up of other people’s energies in their second and third chakras. The second chakra has to do with emotions, while the third has to do with confidence and personal power. Women tend to do for others before they will do for themselves. They carry the emotional burdens of their family and friends, and especially their children. This build up of energy manifests as weight gain in the mid-section, where these two chakras are located. One way to spiritually correct the weight gain is to release all the energy that is not really yours. Release the emotional burdens, the guilt, the worry, that you collect from other people throughout the day. Simply doing a chakra cleanse can help in this capacity. Refer to my article on chakras for a method of accomplishing balance. http://www.erinpavlina.com/blog/2006/11/chakras/ [...]

[...] High Vibrations I recently stumbled upon Erin’s post about Chakras through another thread on the boards. (Thank you, Erin.) That explanation and instruction was wonderful and I’m wondering if there’s another post (or potential post) about raising vibrational energy? In so many of Erin’s posts about communication with her Higher Self, Guides, and Angels, she mentions bringing herself to a higher vibration. While I have a tiny bit of an idea (I think) about what this means, I would really appreciate a deeper understanding. What does it mean to reach a higher vibration? How do you get there? (Are there steps I can take?) How do you sense what your vibrational level is at a given time? I’m sure, like Chakra work, vibrational work is different for different people. I’m very interested in this aspect of growth and would appreciate any insight that anyone can give on the subject. [...]

[...] I’ve probably mentioned or alluded to this process in the past, but the way my guides help me communicate with the deceased is as follows. I open my chakras fully (clearing and cleaning any muck that may be there). I raise my vibration considerably using a technique of climbing a celestial staircase in space. I enter my White Room, which is a place I didn’t invent, but which my guides showed to me. Inside my White Room is a special spirit guide I’ve named Bob whose job it is to help me connect with energies in the ether. I get comfortable in this room and me and Bob go to work. He is the go-between, the conduit, for me to communicate with other people’s loved ones. Loved ones don’t always come through though. There is another, higher place, I can go to find deceased energies. I usually take the escalator because it’s faster.  Really I’m just raising my vibration even higher. I then find myself in a place surrounded by swirling energy. If my sitter has a specific person they want to reach, I will ask for their first name so I can call out to them directly. Otherwise, I just ask this swirling energy if there is anyone related to my sitter who would like to come through. [...] First, open your chakras nice and wide. Start at the root chakra and work your way up. Then ask your higher self or your spirit guides or beings of good intention and high vibrational frequency to come to you with a message that will help you on your path. Listen, and when you hear something, write it down. Question and answer style can work well. Here is a made up example: [...]

[...] Meditation Those of you that meditate: Could you share some of your experiences & insights on meditation? I started meditating as part of the June Challenge, but I feel like there’s still a lot I don’t get. I am aware that there are many possible meditations and styles, and I’m curious about what they are. Here’s what I’ve tried so far: Clearing my mind of thought, or at least letting go of thoughts as they bubble up. If I do this laying down, I almost always fall asleep. (Once, I Walked around the neighborhood attempting to quiet all verbal thoughts, which was quite a challenge, but worthwhile.) Erin’s Chakra Cleansing Recorded visualizations/guided meditations (2) Visualizations that I’ve created myself—a couple that are somewhat regular, and others that are improvised on the spot. Example: If I feel like I’m too influenced by other people, I’ll imagine myself in a white room. Gently, but firmly, I invite all the people in it to leave. Often, the person whose influence on me is negative is the one who resists leaving. I continue the request for him/her/them to leave my space until I’m alone and calm. What are some of the other possibilities? What kinds of meditations do you do? What do you find to be most beneficial? Do you prefer to meditate sitting, standing, walking, laying down? Do you try to avoid falling asleep? What do you want to get out of meditating? For you, what’s the purpose? [...]

[...] big hugs to you. I know what it is like to have a long term illness and yes medications can play havok with intuition! These things have helped me: 1. A raw vegan diet. Eating food in its natural state means that it has all its enzymes intact and is easier to digest. You don’t have to go 100% (!) - just include lots more raw food in your diet. Unfortunately if it is in a bottle or a tin-can it is probably pasturaised and therefore many of the enzymes are denatured. There’s tonnes of info on internet about it. Have a look at some kirlean photographs comparing raw and cooked food. I use Alissa Cohen’s site a lot for info. I think Erin’s said in her blog she was told to go vegan by her guides to raise her vibration. 2. Learning energy healing. Quantum-Touch: The Power to Heal has information about a healing technique you can use to raise your vibrational energy. It’s easy to learn and quick to do. (It is great to do with friends as a healing share). 3. Erin’s chakra clearing exercise. Erin Pavlina - Spiritual Wisdom for Conscious People » Blog Archive » Chakras Aalso I found that becoming reiki attuned helped me stop absorbing everyone’s emotions. (I used to cry if I touched some people as I would be overwhelmed by all their pain - not good! and I found myself swept from one extreme to the other by other people’s moods.) As well as the reiki, I have spent the last few years determined to heal my emotional issues and have used EFT and other energy techniques with a healer to get to the root of the problem. I’m sure other people will have lots of other ideas. They are the things that have helped me, so happy to answer any questions you might have about them. __________________ Life Coaching, EFT and Energy Healing http://www.holisticstar.com [...]
