The Readings
Last year I tried a new way of doing readings. I put all my readings into one week so I could have 3 weeks of each month to work on other projects. This worked really well for the first half of the year. Then in August I added the 15-minute reading option, which really took off, and suddenly the demand for readings tripled. I thought the 15-minute option would cannibalize my 30-minute reading option, but it didn’t. I was getting the same number of 30-mins and twice that in 15-mins. By the end of the year I was back to doing readings every week to keep up with the demand.

This is a pace I can’t afford to continue. It leaves me no time to work on products, trainings, workshops, teleseminars, and books, which are things that benefit more than just one person at a time. So this year I’m going back to being stalwart in setting aside time for non-reading projects. I’d rather not increase the prices on readings, so the wait times are likely to be a little longer. If you’ve been thinking about getting a reading, book sooner rather than later because if the demand is the same as it’s been, there’s a price increase in our future.

Blogging
Last year I tried a new way of blogging. I spent one day a month writing four articles. That was awesome! I had articles queued up for a month and it only took me a day to do it. By the end of the year, I had lost that rhythm and started to get behind.

I prefer to blog when inspiration strikes me, but I like to have one or two articles posted each week. I’m going to try doing them in advance again and see if I can maintain that pace.

Ask Erin
In the beginning of the year I started creating a YouTube series of Ask Erin questions which was fun for me to do. People really enjoyed being able to see me instead of just read me, and it generated a lot of new traffic. But the videos were a little more work than I thought they’d be, and my camera died midway through the year. I went back to writing my Q&As and have yet to replace my camera.

At the end of 2011 I started an Ask Erin series of questions where I posted a short Q&A article every Monday through Friday. That was fun! But I couldn’t sustain that either. I’m still collecting questions, and I’ll turn some of those into articles and some into Q&A.

Professional Intuitive Trainings
Last year I had a blast training students to become professional intuitives. One request I’ve been getting all year has been to find a way to train people remotely so they don’t have to fly into Vegas to do the 4-day training.

It took me a bit of thinking, but I believe I’ve come up with a way to do the trainings remotely. This will save everyone a lot of time and money, and I can still do it in a way that feels ethical and robust to me. The part of the program that is the most important is being able to hear my students give several readings to practice clients so I can make sure they’ve learned the method successfully. In order to graduate my course and receive certification, all students must be able to demonstrate their ability to give accurate readings. Once I figured out how to do this remotely, the rest was easy. It’s going to be awesome!

Products, Teleseminars, and Workshops
My goal this year is to release a product on intuition development. I’m also wanting to do some classes via teleseminar so look for those on the horizon as well. If I can get my act together, there will also be a live intuition development workshop. I’d like to write a book too.

These goals are a little more vague because I haven’t committed to them as fully as I’ve committed to creating the remote intuitive trainings and getting the readings back in line. Once I’ve succeeded with that, I’ll pick another project and run with it.

No More Forums
Steve removed our forums over at his site. If you want to discuss an article or connect with me, then right now the best way is through Facebook. Please never send me a message on Facebook. Those messages get super low priority and it can take a month or longer to get a response, if ever. Please use my contact form instead.

New Website
One big project last year was getting a new website designed and launched. I started that process in August but hit a bunch of snags. I’m back on track and we should see a new website in the first quarter of 2012. Woo hoo!

My Challenges
Besides running my own business, I’m a full time single mom as well (that comes with its own challenges!). Recently I took a look at my schedule and realized that I have just 6.5 hours per day when my kids are in school. That’s 32.5 hours per week where I can work in peace. That disturbed me a little because I’m sure I’ve got more than 32.5 hours worth of work each week. No wonder I’m running behind and getting frazzled and frustrated that I can’t get more done.

Trying to balance my work and family life has been a big challenge for me, but one I intend to work on more this year. I’m not sure if that means cutting out some of my work-time, working more on weekends and evenings, or hiring someone to help me with the kids or the errands. I’ll experiment and figure it out. But triaging my time has become super important to me.

I’m still working on some health challenges, and have been experimenting with diet a little. I’m not 100% vegan anymore, but still very vegetarian. I’m working on finding a diet that works better with my personal health situation, and am willing to continue to experiment until I find something that works for me.

Steve and I still have not filed for divorce, but we’re getting closer to working out the terms of our divorce. I expect this will happen before mid-year.

I’m devoting a fair bit of time to two of my passions: the Red Cross, and paranormal investigations. I’m taking more classes with the Red Cross so that I can begin making presentations to families to help them prepare for disasters. I may even become an instructor at some point. And I am continuing to serve as a disaster action team member at least twice a month.

And I’ve begun doing more paranormal investigations which is a hobby of mine. My team and I do not charge anything to do an investigation. If people are plagued by entities, demons, or poltergeists, I want to help. If you’re in the Vegas area, or within a 4 hour drive, and you need help, contact me.

People often ask if I’m dating or if I’m seeing someone. I’ve done some online dating, but nothing major has come of it. And I’ve spent some quality time with some gentlemen that I hold dear, but I would say officially I’m not currently dating anyone. If I can find some time to date, I’m definitely going to get on that. I’ve become very discerning, so for a man to capture my attention he has to be pretty stellar. I’d rather get it right than get it often.

Before I commit to it, I’d really like to gauge the demand for such an event.

I realize that it’s impractical for most of my readers to travel all the way to Las Vegas, Nevada for a workshop, but I also know that studying with an expert in person is an invaluable way to learn, so I’d like to make it available to those who would like to come.

To help gauge interest, I’ve constructed a very simple 2-question survey. I would really appreciate it if you take a minute (or less) to take the survey, which will help me decide if the demand is high enough for me to go through the process of booking a live event.

Here are some details so you know as much as I know right now.

It would take place on a weekend, a Saturday and Sunday.

The hours would most likely be 9am to 4pm, maybe 5pm.

It would be here in Las Vegas, NV.

I would be conducting the entirety of the workshop, no other guest teachers.

The cost would be $297 for the 2-day program.

By the end of the workshop you will know who your spirit guides are, how to tune in to your intuition, how to receive intuitive information when you want it, how to use your chakras to boost your intuition, what your higher self most wants you to know, your life purpose or current life lesson, and what your dominant intuitive modality is. You will have practice on site, and you will get exercises you can do at home to strengthen your intuitive abilities. Plus you’ll be able to ask questions and get instant answers from a professional intuitive.

I would likely limit the workshop to no more than 50 people.

In a normal 30-minute session, I spend the first 2-5 minutes telling my client what’s going on in their life so as to provide validation that I am truly connected with their guides. Then I spend 5-15 minutes telling my client what their guides most want them to know. I spend the rest of the session answering my client’s questions. A 60-minute reading option is just a longer version of this where my client gets to ask a lot more questions, connect with a deceased family member if one is present, and we also have time to go over their extended family (yes, I can answer questions about your parents, siblings, and kids during a reading).

I’d never offered a 15-minute reading option before because it just didn’t feel like there would be enough time to get all the information to my client. So much information comes through during a 30-minute session that I felt we would have to leave too much on the table if we only went for 15 minutes. However, sometimes after I’ve read for a client, they contact me again 3-4 weeks later because they have follow up questions. In those cases, I’ve offered them a 15-minute follow up reading so they can get their new questions answered. I don’t need to read their life situation again since I just did it a few weeks prior, and I don’t need to provide a ton of validation since they’ve already had a reading with me and know I can connect to their guides no problem. So those 15-minute readings have worked quite well.

After the survey results came in I started to think about whether I could offer a 15-minute reading that I felt good about, and after careful deliberation I believe I can, but with the following understanding.

In 15 minutes we are going to need to hit the ground running. When you get on the phone with me, I will ask you for your first question immediately, foregoing the life situation validation that I usually offer. If you trust me or you’ve had a reading with me before, you’ll probably be comfortable with this. If you’re not, then book the 30-minute option and you will get all of that validation.

In 15 minutes we’ll have time to fully cover one area of your life such as career or relationships or health, but we won’t have time to go in depth on all the areas of your life. I sometimes spend 15 minutes of a reading just channeling a business plan for a client. It’s robust, it’s awesome, but it does take up a good portion of time. If that’s all you need, however, then 15 minutes is a good option.

Alternatively, I can also spend 15 minutes answering up to 10 questions if they are worded well, are clear and not vague. If you just want answers, I can provide that. But we won’t have time to go into depth on any one question. So a bad question is “What can you tell me about my career path?” and a good question is, “My wife has been working in the family business for 7 years and now she’s telling me she wants to leave the business and become a teacher. Is that in our best interest?” Again if you want depth, pick one area of your life for the guides to cover or book a 30 minute reading.

Before the reading I will tune in to your spirit guides and I’ll write down anything that your guides feel is important for you to know. I feel I must do that out of respect to the guides for participating in the reading. Chances are good that what they most want you to know will relate in some way to your primary question, and I feel it’s important to let the guides have their say.

I’m going to offer the 15-minute reading option initially on a trial basis so that I can see how well they work out and make sure the quality is still there. So for now, I’m offering just 18 slots. If you want one, contact my assistant, Erin Ashley, and tell her which day and times below that you’d like (the more flexible you are, the more likely you are to get an appointment). She will set you up with your appointment, give you further instructions and a link to pay for your reading. You must pay for your reading within 24 hours or forfeit your spot. Any extra people will be put on a waiting list for a future 15-minute reading slot.

The dates and times below are all Pacific Time, Las Vegas, NV. Please check your time zone to see what time that is for you.

The price for these readings is $197.

The Danger of Compromise
Like Steve mentioned in his article, we spent much of our 15 years together compromising with each other. Everything from what movie to get at the video store to the big issues like how to raise our children. When you compromise too often, neither person gets what they want. You end up living a life you don’t desire which erodes your overall happiness. When Steve and I met, I was 24 and he was 22. Our compatibility was very high. Steve really helped to empower me, and I was on a quest to teach him compassion and oneness. As we grew and matured, and especially after we had children, we simply fell out of alignment with each other. We were both being drawn in different directions. Our love for each other was always quite strong, however, and we didn’t desire to separate, so we kept trying to find ways to walk together on a path that was quickly diverging. When two people reach a fork in the road, you have three options. Stop and stand still so you don’t lose each other. One partner gives up their path to walk their partners path. Or you let go and go your separate ways.

If you stand still, you stop growing. You set down your anchor and your boat no longer flows smoothly down the river of life. If one partner gives up their own path to walk their partner’s path, you end up with resentment and unhappiness, and a feeling of loss. When your paths diverge, you must honor the pull of your own path, and let go with love. That is not failure. That is honoring and respecting your higher self, your mission, your true alignment. This is what Steve and I eventually decided we must do in order to be happy. So we let go and began walking our separate paths. That doesn’t mean we lost sight of each other. And that doesn’t mean our paths don’t still touch in some ways. But now we are both free to walk our paths freely without compromise. It’s a liberating and powerful feeling.

The First Three Months
The first three months after we separated were really tough for me. I was sick when we decided to divorce and I didn’t actually get better for three months. The stress of separation along with the stress of moving, and the adjustment to single life obviously took its toll on me. One thing that kept me going was that I had just signed up for my CERT class (Community Emergency Response Team) and was so excited to be taking that class that it kept me from slipping into fear or depression. My friends and family rallied around me and helped me immeasurably. I felt supported and loved by my friends, and I’m positive they made a huge difference in how I adjusted to the loss of my marriage.

The first three months I spent many a night lying in bed with tears rolling down my face. I’m a very emotional person, and I was feeling so many different emotions like fear, sadness, anxiety and loneliness. For a couple of weeks I had a lot of trouble sleeping. My friend Vicki helped me see that I was grieving the loss of what I thought my life was going to be and that I needed to begin to see the new possibilities that life offered. Metaphorically, I was looking longingly at the path Steve and I had been on with all its possibilities and love, instead of looking with power and hope ahead on the path I was now on. Another friend, Todd, spent countless hours on the phone with me, just listening to my thoughts and fears and desires. He’s the most amazing listener ever. And my other friend, Dana, kept encouraging and empowering me and not letting me wallow. He helped me see my own greatness, which gave me a lot of confidence in myself.

Finding My Power
In January, I hit the ground running. I finally felt well physically, and we were coming up on our second Conscious Growth Workshop. I decided it was time to create a product. I put my head to the grindstone and created an audio program in 2 weeks with the help of several people including Darren LaCroix (who burned my CDs), Dana Richardson (who did the artwork), and Jason Ward (my sound engineer). What a reference experience that was! For the first time in a long time I had decided what I wanted to do and made it happen. I used to wait for Steve to tell me what to do because I was really good at giving him my power (don’t do this ladies!) and relied on his ability to strategize and plan long-term. So deciding upon, creating, and releasing a product that Steve had no part of was fantastic for me. I also decided it was time to take a serious look at my career and start doing all the things I’d only dreamed of. I had spent a lot of my energy helping Steve with his business, so it was time for me to help myself with mine.

In the past year, I not only released a product, I also did a teleseminar, an intuition workshop, and a 2 hour salon event. And I started up my Professional Intuitive Training Program so I could teach and share what I know with others. I couldn’t be happier with how all of that worked out. Concentrating on my career feels fantastic and I expect to continue doing that for at least another year.

The Children
I was so worried that our separation would be super hard on the kids. I can tell you that while there were some bumps, overall, the kids are handling our separation quite well. When we separated we decided I would take full custody of the children to provide them stability while we figured out how we wanted to handle custody. A year later, we are still working on that. It’s somewhat complicated as we both desire to raise the children in very different ways. As Steve mentioned in his article, I like to set down roots, foster a sense of community, and build strong family connections. I grew up in a very loving household and we spent a lot of time with relatives. Steve grew up without a strong connection to his family and without feeling loved, and I don’t think he ever really appreciated how much my family just wanted to love and accept him. Steve likes to move around and I like to have a strong home base. Steve wants to give the children very unique educational experiences, and I’m a fan of traditional education, though I can certainly appreciate the value of unique experiences. I am completely in favor of Steve taking the kids on a trip around the world, and I’m just as happy to stay home while he does it.

I believe that our children are better off with the arrangement we currently have. I can provide them stability, certainty, routine, and a strong nurturing, loving environment, and Steve can give them the support they’ll need as they grow to adulthood, and offer them guidance as they become adults. Once Steve and I stopped hoping the other partner would “come around” and we just accepted that we have different parenting styles, things got a lot better.

Currently, I do pretty much all of the childcare, and Steve pops in when he’s not traveling or spending time with Rachelle. Our son, Kyle, is a very sensitive and emotional child and he does a lot better with my style of parenting. Our daughter, Emily, is very adventurous and likes to explore. She’s strong and robust, and she and Steve get along very well. I’ll be curious to see how things go as the years progress. One thing the kids know they have is our love. We express it differently, but the kids have learned that different styles don’t mean one parent loves them any less. Because Steve and I are both happier people now that we are separated, the kids are happier kids because they have two happy parents who aren’t wallowing in resentment, anger, and frustration. It’s very challenging being a single parent though and I’ve had to call upon babysitters often so I can still have a social life and get things done.

Dating
People often ask me if I’m dating. After spending roughly 16 years with the same man, and giving him a lot of my power, I decided the healthy thing for me to do is find my strength and independence without a male partner. I don’t want to fall back into the trap of relying on anyone else to provide for me. I’ve literally had a boyfriend or partner in my life since Kindergarten (Andy, are you out there and do you remember nap time in Mrs. Lehrig’s class?) My whole life I thought I needed a partner to complete me. Now that I am without a partner, I feel amazing. My confidence and power are soaring. Until I am sure that I won’t fall back into old habits, I intend to remain happily single. That doesn’t mean I don’t long for male companionship. I do miss having regular sex, but as some of you are probably aware, I did have a lovely affair with a young man over this past year who treated me with great kindness, respect, and was really great in bed. Being with him was perfect. No commitments, no expectations, no drama, no baggage. Just fun and pleasure. I am open to intimacy with partners, but it’s not my main concern right now. Providing for my family and focusing on career are what I want now. Thankfully, my social network is strong and powerful and I get a lot of love from my friends. I’ve recently attempted some online dating and went on a few dates but find it tedious, so I’m not going to bother with it anymore.

I have begun, however, to think about what I want in a partner. I’ve started creating my list. So if he were to happen by, I will recognize him and be ready for him. I’m open to marrying again, and I’m also open to being with a life partner without marriage. The door is open to manifesting this man into my life, but I’m not hitting the pavement prowling for him nightly.

Summary
I’m having the time of my life right now, made possible by the fact that Steve and I were able to let go of the marriage to save the relationship. We got to keep the areas in which we share compatibility, while releasing all the connections that caused us conflict. It was hard in the beginning, and there are moments when I wonder if we could have somehow pulled it together, but I trust in the pull of the river, and can’t wait to see where it leads me.

My aunt Susan graciously agreed to host the event in her home in Los Angeles. As we worked through the logistics, we realized her chairs and couches were too bulky so I made arrangements to rent some chairs from a party rental company. We ended up being able to fit 27 people in her living room, but just barely. We were pretty cozy in there!

The feel of a salon is supposed to be personal and intimate, so I decided we’d serve light refreshments after the event so people had time to mingle and get to know each other. I definitely saw people doing just that as they munched on their vegan cookies, chocolates, fruit, nuts, coffee and tea. That was really gratifying to know that connections were being made among strangers.

I arrived at my aunt’s house two hours in advance to help her set up. It’s a good thing I did. There was a lot to set up! I always run a little warm so we set up a desk fan that would blow on me during the event. I was so grateful we did that and will have to remember to have one at future events. We set up my Flip camera to record the event, but the batteries died half way through so I’ll also have to remember to show up with a fully charged Flip! We also had to set up the music that would accompany the 2 brief meditations I led the participants through. And we had to set up the food, bottled water, registration table, make nametags, and a host of other tidbits. In the future, I’ll probably bring an assistant to handle those details for me so I can concentrate on my material.

I was super grateful to find that everyone arrived early and on time. As a toastmaster, I am used to starting and ending exactly on time, and so we did. My twin sister was there to introduce me. We had a lot of fun bantering with each other. I was expecting to feel nervous, as I do before any speaking engagement, but I was surprised to find that I was just happy and excited to get going. Oh, there were a few butterflies, but nothing like the terror I used to feel when speaking in front of groups.

I did a brief meditation to get everyone’s energy up and open. Then we launched into questions. I loved the questions. They were all over the place, so it was nice to touch upon so many topics. I could do a salon where I pick the topic we’re going to discuss but then people can’t comfortably ask questions outside that topic, so I think keeping it a free for all was great. I answered questions for about an hour and a half. Then we moved on to the psychic reading portion of the event. I asked if anyone had a question to ask their guides and many hands went up. I knew I wouldn’t have time to answer everyone so I just let the guides select for me and picked who I felt drawn to.

Normally when I do a reading, I spend at least 30 minutes with a client, and the first thing I do is tell them all about themselves and their current life situation so they know I’m legitimate and accurate, then they get to ask questions. But in the salon environment, with so many people wanting to ask questions, I couldn’t do that. I had to be content with letting them ask a question and getting their answer without me being able to provide as much validation and confirmation as I like to do. So that’s something I’ll have to think about. If I just do one long reading with one person I fear the rest of the audience will be bored. So I think I’ll either skip doing the group readings or just keep it to one question per person and get to as many as possible.

I did notice my throat becoming strained and tired after projecting my voice for 2 hours. So that’s also something I’ll have to work on. I kept drinking water but I think hot tea might work better.

Some of the questions people asked included:

• How do I guard my energy when people around me are negative?
• How do I achieve astral projection after separation?
• Can your life purpose change over time?
• Can guides be deceased relatives?
• What is the difference between guides and higher selves?
• How do I trust my intuition?

I really liked the questions people asked. I could have kept answering all night! Well, if my throat was more cooperative!

We ended the evening with my gratitude meditation from my audio program, Raising Your Vibration. I greatly enjoyed having a small number of people attend so I could personally greet them at the beginning and chat with them all afterward. I sold my CDs in the back of the room, and also sold readings at a special event price. I spent the next day doing all of those readings! In the future I think I’ll have to limit the readings to phone calls or not do so many in-person because I was exhausted by the end of the day.

One of the young women there decided to write an article about the salon for an L.A. magazine. Her editor-in-chief thought a review plus an interview would be great, so she met with me on the 16th to interview me for the piece. It’s not published yet, but I will post a link when I see it online.

I am planning to do this event again but in Las Vegas. I’m not sure when yet, but I will be keeping the gathering small again so we can maintain the cozy, personal, friendly environment we created at the first one. I had a lot of fun, enjoyed the experience, and definitely want to do another.

This was my first, live, solo event. While I did a 90-minute presentation on intuition at a joint workshop with me and the ladies of my mastermind group, this was the first event where I was the “headliner” act. No Steve, no other speakers, just me. It was a great challenge for me, and a great reference experience. If my 4th grade self, who was terrified of public speaking, knew that someday I’d be doing my own workshops, events, and seminars, I’m not sure she would have let me get any older.

Here are the details regarding the position, please note that training will be provided:

Time commitment
This is definitely a part time position. Sometimes you’ll be heavily engaged in a project and sometimes it will be a 10 minute task. You will hold the plate and I will throw things on it. As they get handled, new items will appear on your plate. I hope you’re hungry.

Payment
As this is an internship it is an unpaid position. However, you get great experience, the chance to work with a lightworker whose mission is heavily aligned with helping the planet, a great reference for your resume, and personal acquaintance with me on a near-daily basis. In the future, this position could easily lead to a paid position if the circumstances warrant it.

Duties Include:
Internet research – Sometimes I will ask you to report on trends in the industry.

Promotion support – finding good media sources for interviews and guest blogging, interfacing with media outlets who need information from/about me.

Blog support – Searching through stock photography to find pertinent photos for blog entries

Workshop support – Helping prepare materials for workshops

Graphic support – getting graphics made (or if you can make them yourself, a huge plus)

Product support – helping people who are having difficulties downloading their mp3 or reading their ebook or using the shopping cart, etc.

Correspondence – friendly responses to people I can’t get to. Some knowledge of main topics is helpful (personal, spiritual, and psychic development) but not necessary

And more as things come up

Bonus skills if you have them:
Sales and marketing knowledge
Ability to write product copy
Some wordpress savvy
Live close to Vegas to assist with live events (you will get free admission to all of my events and some of Steve’s if I’m there working with him, but travel expenses will be your own to bear)

Qualifications:
The person I’m looking for will be extremely reliable, speedy, and honest (i.e. if you don’t know how to do something you’ll ask me instead of faking it ‘til you make it). You’ll be friendly, able to correspond well with others, professional, and easily reached (i.e. none of this “don’t call me until after 5pm each day because my boss will fire me if he catches me working on your stuff instead of his” stuff.) You will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement keeping details of my personal and professional life to yourself as you will be privy to sensitive and private information. And you want to have fun, have a great experience, and help shift the planet.

Lastly let me know your availability (i.e. if you have a full time job somewhere else, if you can’t work weekends, or what not).
