Answer: Selling your soul to the Devil sure is an interesting concept. What would you sell your soul for? What is worth eternal hellfire and damnation? A few decades of wealth, fame, and power? Really?

Selling your soul to the Devil is impossible because He doesn’t exist, so don’t stand at the crossroads and bury your photo with a chicken bone waiting for the Devil to arrive with a contract and a pen with bloody ink. It’s not going to happen.

However, you can sellout your soul, so let’s talk about that. When you decide that your personal goals are more important than your soul, you start to take actions that may not be aligned with the highest good of the people around you. You might be willing to lie, cheat, steal, or worse to get what you want, believing you deserve it, or because you simply don’t care about negative consequences or harming others. In that case, you are selling your soul, but not to the Devil. You’re disconnecting from Oneness to nab resources from the Body of Humanity in a way that will likely deplete the Whole. And when you do that, you can expect the Body of Humanity to attempt to eject you for the good of all.

When you sell your soul, you begin racking up karmic debt that must be paid back, not with punishment, but with understanding. Some people might call that hell or damnation so, to that extent, selling your soul could result in a hellish experience on earth or in the afterlife. You must pay the price for your actions. When you contribute to the Body of Humanity and work in alignment with Oneness, you are rewarded with more resources. When you steal from the Body of Humanity and disconnect from Divine Love, you are cast out, isolated, and ejected. Some people are okay with that, and that’s fine. But balance will win out in the end.

Before you decide to sell your soul, please consider what you’re selling it for. Is it wealth, fame or power? All of these can be had by contributing to humanity. It might seem easier in the short run to take instead of give, but in the end the rewards for contribution are happiness, oneness, and connection. The “rewards” for selling your soul are not nearly as pleasant. But it’s your choice. Always has been, always will be. Choose your path wisely.

Answer: There’s a huge irony here. I get tons of emails from people who want to project and can’t, and emails from people who don’t want to but keep finding themselves accidentally doing it. If only the twain could meet.

To prevent astral projection you pretty much need to do the opposite of what you’d have to do to bring one on.

Don’t sleep on your back
The most common position where a spontaneous astral projection takes place is while on your back. Take great pains to sleep on your side, or your stomach (even better!). You can train yourself not to sleep on your back with practice, just as you can train yourself to sleep on your back or sleep upright if you wanted or needed to. Of course it is possible to astral project when you sleep on your side, but it’s more rare so you stand a better chance if you can stay on your side.

Don’t take a nap
I certainly don’t understand the science behind this one, but it’s easier to astral project during short naps than long nights of sleep. So if you want to avoid a spontaneous and unwanted projection, don’t take a midday nap.

Sleep through the night
Likewise, people trying to learn astral projection are often taught to wake themselves up at 4am, stay up for 30 minutes, then go back to sleep. This can lead to lucid dreaming and/or astral experiences. So if you’re trying to avoid an astral experience, don’t go back to sleep an hour after you wake up.

Don’t meditate before bed
Another way to increase your chances of astral projection is to meditate, raise your vibration, and ask your guides for help. So to avoid this, don’t meditate right before bed. If you love meditation, switch to the morning or the daytime. When you meditate before bed, you will raise your vibration and make it that much easier to project.

Ask your angels for help
When you want to project, you can ask your angels to help protect you when you go out. Likewise, if you want to stay in for the evening, ask your angels to keep the door closed and to stand guard. Sometimes the spontaneous astral projections happen because there is indeed an energy waiting to interact with you, so it sort of throws open the door and invites you in.

Be ready to pull back
If you are unable to prevent the astral projection from starting, at least be ready to slam the door closed when it happens. If you wake up on your back, tingling, high-pitched whine going, and something “untoward” breathing down your neck you must act fast. Normally, to project from this state you would raise your vibration (to move out of phase with the baddie), and then stretch out or pop out of your body.

If you’re trying to prevent an astral experience though, you have to pull your energy in tight. You don’t want to lower your vibration because that will just make you an easier energy snack for the low vibrational being. Ask your guides to protect you, and ask your angels to escort the baddie off the premises. Pull your chakra energy in tight instead of opening it up. Try to move your physical body. You’ll probably be paralyzed, but keep trying. Try to use your vocal cords to scream. It may come out as a whimper, but that’s enough. If you have a partner in bed with you, they might hear the whimper and wake you up.

You’ve got to stay confident and strong and bring your will to bear on the situation so you can stay in your body and not get pulled. Do not succumb to fear or you can find yourself being pulled out of your body unwillingly. Sleep paralysis can be frightening, but it usually only lasts seconds to a couple of minutes. You will break free. When you do, immediately sit up, turn on the light, and raise your vibration.

If you find yourself repeatedly having these unwanted astral experiences you might want to get on top of them and learn how to astral project safely, then go out and have some fun experiences. There might be a reason you’re having these experiences. Perhaps your guides want to show you something.

Answer: While this may seem like a silly question, there is actually some truth to the notion that a photo can capture your soul. But probably not in the way these cultures are thinking.

At all times a person is broadcasting his energy. An intuitive person who knows how to tune in to another person’s broadcast can get information about the person. Energy contains information, and if you can receive it and translate it, you can know things about a person that they’ve never conveyed to you with word or deed.

When you take a picture of someone, you are taking a snapshot of their energy. A photo can be used as a tuning guide. It’s like someone saying, “This guy broadcasts on channel 101.7.” When I look at a photo, if I purposely open myself up to it, I can instantly receive a download of information about the person. Some of the information I can get from a photo includes financial situation, whether they are single or in a relationship, their level of self esteem, their connection to humanity, how well they express themselves to others, their level of connection with their own intuition, and how connected they feel to Source. And that’s just in the first 5 minutes. After that, I can use the energy in the photo to connect with their life story, so I can pick up details about their career field, accidents they had as a child, what kind of parental energy they were raised with, whether they are considering a career move and to what career, what their fears and worries are, what they struggle with, etc. Then I can tune in to their spirit guides to find out what they most need to know to help them on their path. That’s pretty much what happens when I do my intuitive readings.

So I would say that while a photo cannot capture your soul in the sense that you then no longer have a soul, a photo can capture your energy and transmit information about you to others. This is one way that a psychic detective can intuit the perpetrator of a crime by looking at mug shots of previous offenders, or by looking at photos of suspects.

So beware the camera if you are hiding something. A photo locks in your frequency and an intuitive can use it discern information about you. This doesn’t mean an intuitive can determine your deepest, darkest secret just from a photo. Things you shield and keep hidden will remain hidden. A photo is a window to your soul, but not a wide open door.

Answer: I guess it depends on the way you look at it, but there is a possibility that you may hear something from your spirit guides that you’re either not expecting to hear, not wanting to hear, or not ready to hear. After all, if you know what they’re going to say, there’s little point in getting a reading except as validation or confirmation of what you know.

By and large, however, your guides will tell you what you most need to know to move your life in a direction that will benefit you. So if that means addressing your bulimia, your gambling habit, your drug abuse, etc. then they might bring it up, yes. But bear in mind that if you’re doing something to yourself that is slowing you down or holding you back from what you want, then why shouldn’t they bring it up? When they do, they will also offer advice on how to overcome the destructive habit. If you’re not ready to let it go, that’s your choice, but at least listen to what they have to say.

Could the guides tell you something negative that is outside of your control, such as an impending death or something equally frightening? I have definitely done readings that started out with strong warnings in the area of health or personal safety. I recall reading for one client and as soon as we got on the phone I knew her husband was suffering from sleep apnea, that he needed a CPAP machine at night, that he was not using it, and because of this, he was in true and real danger of death, and soon. She told me I was right about all of that and she would take great steps to ensure her husband wore his breathing apparatus. Did she want to know that? Probably. Did she think to ask that? No. The guides jumped in because he was headed down a path that they felt led to sure death.

People have sometimes asked me if I can see a loved one dying soon. The guides will answer that question. I always tell people not to ask a question unless they’re ready for the answer. I’ve never done a reading where guides predicted a death that would occur by accident; it’s always been related to a health condition, known or unknown to my client. Accidents would be hard to predict since they are just that – accidents – and involve the free will of potentially hundreds of people all needing to be in the right place at the wrong time.

Sometimes it’s emotional pain people don’t want to know about. Will the guides tell you that your partner is cheating on you, or that your children are lying about their whereabouts, or that your friends are talking about you behind your back? Not usually. Unless you ask directly, they likely won’t offer that kind of information. Instead, they will focus on what you need to know, do or change to move in the direction you want to go. But if you ask the question, you will get an answer, it may not be what you’re expecting, but you will definitely get an answer.

Guides are gentle, loving, and kind. They care about your well being. They are continually broadcasting information to you that’s designed to help you attract what you need and what you desire. If you listen and act on what they tell you, chances are excellent you will see amazing progress and growth in your life. Answer:  Generally speaking, no, the dead do not miss the living.  I know that sounds horrible, but let’s look at death from their perspective so you’ll understand why they don’t miss us like we miss them.

When your loved one dies, he’s greeted on the other side by loved ones who have crossed over before him.  He goes back to the light of Divine Love.  To say he’s in a better place is an understatement.  He’s happy, blissful even.  It’s as exciting as winning the lottery.  He goes through his life review, understanding and comprehending the lessons and experiences he had in life.  He makes peace with himself, and crosses right on over into bliss.

The dead are aware, however, that those of us left behind are having a much harder time dealing with what we perceive as a loss, because we, the living, think the person is gone to a galaxy far, far away.  Our dead loved ones try to get our attention, to let us know they are just fine and playing Bingo in the sky with your old dog, uh … Bingo.  For them it’s like looking through one way glass where they can see us but we can’t see them.  So they wave their arms, stomp up and down, scream to us, but we can’t hear them.  How frustrating do you think that is for them?

So next they try getting our attention in other ways.  They send us dreams telling us they’re fine.  We discount those as “just dreams.”  They knock pictures off the wall.  We discount those as the house settling or the kids running amok.  They waft specific smells our way.  “Does anyone smell freesia? Didn’t grandma like freesias?  Weird.”  They put significant songs on the radio, drop change in front of our feet, make the rocking chair rock all by itself, and we chalk it all up to imagination or wishful thinking.  So finally they just sit and hold us with their incorporeal arms, trying to comfort us physically without a physical body to do it with.

And they listen.  They listen to our prayers and eulogies, our anger, our sadness.  And they watch.  They watch us cry, sleep, and cry some more.  They watch us slowly put our lives back together.  They feel joy when we have a victory over our grief.

But they’re also spending their time getting to know the other side and reconnecting with people there.  They realize that no one really dies, we simply transform.  This is nothing to be sad about.  It’s something wonderful.  If the living could remember that the dead are not truly gone, it could lessen our grief.  We grieve over our loss, over the loss of their presence in our lives.  And yes, that is a real loss, but it is not a complete, never-going-to-see-you-again loss. 

Honor the dead.  Share your joy and love with them.  Cast love energy their way.  And try to feel the love energy they’re casting back at you.  A medium can help you reconnect, but a medium is unnecessary if you open your heart and remember that the dead don’t leave us, so they don’t miss us.  Remember them and cherish your memories.  You can keep the connection alive by talking to them and acknowledging their presence at special family events.

They are still there, you can still talk to them, and they still see you and care about you.  They know you’re sad, but they know life is an amazing gift and experience, and they want you to enjoy yours to the fullest extent possible.  When you’re ready, move on with living your life. You will see your loved ones again.

Answer:  The answer to that question depends on what happened in your previous life and whether or not it’s affecting this one.

When I do readings, sometimes, but not always, the guides will show me details of a person’s previous life.  I know that when a past life is brought up during one of my readings that it’s because the previous life holds clues to something that’s challenging to my client in this life.  Otherwise, past lives don’t usually come up in my readings.

Past life recall can be a wonderful and interesting experience, so if you’re interested in what you were doing or who you were in a past life, by all means look into it.  Hypnosis is a good tool to recall past lives, a good psychic can tune in to your past lives, or you can even do it by yourself using various techniques and methods.  Look up Brian L. Weiss for more information on past lives or learn how to access your Akashic Record.

I want to reassure you, though, that you do not need to know about your past lives in order to achieve what you want in this one.  If remembering past lives was so crucial to success in this one, they would be a lot easier to recall.  You have access to all the information you could ever need about how to overcome life’s challenges and manifest your desires.  Your guides, higher self, the angels, and even Source directly can help you.  Or you can simply learn to hurdle your obstacles using good old fashioned truth, love, and power.

All that being said, sometimes a past life offers a definitive clue to something that’s keeping you stuck in this one.  Usually when past life information comes up in my readings, my client suffered an early death, (usually via murder, accident, or suicide), and didn’t get to complete the lessons they came to learn.  When this happens, you can carry over some of those lessons and pick them right back up in this life.  Think of it like a do-over or like repeating a course in college.  Life will give you another chance to complete the “course” you were taking in your previous “semester.” 

So if you’re feeling particularly stuck in this life or if you seem to keep attracting the same lessons over and over again, you may find a clue in a past life or you may not.  Your problem may simply have manifested in this life. 

Past life recall can definitely give you clues about fears you have in this life.  For example I can’t wear turtle necks, scarves, or choker necklaces thanks to being hung in a previous life.  I know people who are claustrophobic due to being buried alive in a previous life.  And I know a person who fear dogs today because they were hunted down and mauled by a group of them in a past life.  If you have unreasoning fears that don’t seem to pertain to anything that happened to you in this life, it definitely could have been a past life situation.

If you do decide to look into your past lives be sure not to give them too much power.  They can assist you by providing insight, but if you put too much energy into them you’ll forget what you’re doing in this life.  Pay attention to what’s going on now.

Answer:  I get variations on this question a lot.  If you lose a child either through abortion or miscarriage what happens to that baby’s soul?  Does it ever reincarnate back to the same parents or does it only get one chance?  The answer is sometimes yes and sometimes no.  It depends on several factors.

A child comes to a set of parents in three ways: by pre-arranged contract, by happenstance, and by accident.

Pre-arranged Contract
Sometimes before you incarnate you get with another soul and agree to be its future parent.  The soul who will be playing the part of your child waits for you to get to a point in your life that seems appropriate for him or her to incarnate.  Then whammo, pregnant, or if you’re a guy, your partner gets pregnant.  Doesn’t matter if you were consciously ready to have a child, sometimes the need and the contract outweigh the conscious desire.  So in this case, if you abort the pregnancy or if your body suffers a miscarriage, chances are good the child will make another attempt, unless the conditions under which it intended to incarnate change so drastically that your life is no longer suitable for it to explore its goals and desires.

By Happenstance
Sometimes you incarnate with no pre-arranged contract in the ether.  So you’re tooling along in life and decide to have a baby.  You send out the intention to the universe and your higher self scrambles around, holds auditions, does casting calls, etc. to find a soul that would be happy to play the part of your child.  Not pre-arranged, but still totally wonderful.  When your higher self finds you a soul and if the situation is good for everyone, that child will incarnate.  So if you abort or miscarry this baby’s body, that particular soul may or may not come back to you at a future date.  Its desire to be your particular child isn’t as strong or urgent as in the first case with the contract so it may move on to other parents or it may decide not to incarnate at all.

By Accident
In the third situation, you were not planning to have a child but either someone decided it wanted to incarnate with you, or you created a vessel that needed to be filled.  A suitable soul will be selected or has selected you without your conscious knowledge.  If you did not intend to have a child and you choose to abort the child or if you have a miscarriage, it may or may not come to you again.  That all depends on whether you want to have children, whether the child soul wants to incarnate to you, and whether the circumstances will be right in the future for it to have the life with you it wanted.

About 11 or 12 years ago a friend of mine was pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl.  During labor, her boy child passed away mysteriously in utero.  She had to deliver both babies, but her girl was alive and her boy was gone.  I felt very strongly this child would come back to her and that it would still be a boy.  Two years later to the DAY of her first child’s birth, she gave birth to the boy she originally lost.  The “twins” still had the same birthday, different year.  This child came back.

To sum up, a child who is lost through miscarriage or abortion has the capability of coming back to the same parents.  It will decide what is best based on circumstances, desire, and intent of all involved.  If you have lost a child and are hoping it will come back to you, ask it to.  Welcome it and invite that soul back.  It may come back as a different gender than it was originally.  That’s okay.  A soul decides what gender it will be at the time of selection.

Another question people ask me is whether their baby is okay on the other side.  Whether you lose a child through abortion, miscarriage, or early in its life, you have to remember that the size of its soul is not related to the size of its body.  While we always incarnate into a small shell, we are still “full grown” souls, so when we cross over, we are just fine. 

Losing a child is never easy, but please rest assured there are no hard feelings, sadness, regrets, or anger on the part of the soul who goes early back to the ether.  It’s all part of the circle of life.  And it all works out perfectly in the end.  If there was a strong connection between you and the baby’s soul, you will see it again when you cross over.

Answer:  Both your higher self and your spirit guides are there to help you navigate your way through life, but they do serve different purposes and roles, so let’s talk about who you should consult and when.

A reminder that your higher self is your true essence, your soul, who you are when the veil that shrouds life is pulled back and you remember exactly who you are and where you came from.  Your higher self is the part of you that is most conscious, the operator to your avatar.  It’s like if life was a video game, the incarnated you is the character and the higher self is the gamer sitting behind the scenes eating pizza and drinking soda while influencing and guiding the character through the game of life.

Your spirit guides, on the other hand, were chosen by your higher self to help keep you on track as you navigate the maze of your life.  They are celestial beings who may or may not have ever been incarnated as humans, but are qualified to guide you.  Their job is to follow the boss’s orders and get you from point A to point B with as much learning, growth, happiness, and joy as possible.

I like to think of the higher self as the CEO of your company, and the spirit guides as managers.  Your higher self is the visionary, the leader, the one calling the shots, and your guides implement the strategies and directives set forth by your higher self.

So who should you consult when you need advice, help and answers?

In general, you would consult spirit guides when you want to know what’s coming up on your path.  Should you go left or right at the crossroads?  Should you study abroad?  Should you move to a new city?  Should you date the guy you met in your history class?  And so forth.  Your guides will be able to help you see where each path leads so you can make a good choice.

Your higher self, on the other hand, is a good person to consult when you want to remember your connection to Source, when you want to remember your message and why you incarnated, when you need love and support, and when you want to feel strong and empowered.  It’s not that your higher self can’t help you make a decision, but that’s really what the guides are best at. 

Commune with your higher self, consult your guides.  That’s my motto.

The reason I commune more often with my higher self than my guides is because at the moment my life is flowing totally easily and effortlessly in the direction I want it to go, so my guides are kicking back, taking a smoke break, and patting themselves on the back.   I enjoy meeting with my higher self in my garden because it’s peaceful and I like her energy.

I suggest you connect with both your higher self and guides, just understand where each is focused and how each can help you best.

Answer:  Sometimes when I’m doing a reading for a client both of their parents do come through during the reading.  The way they present to me tells me more about their relationship than if they flat out told me what their situation was.

If a couple was happily together at the time of the first person’s demise, I usually see them come through together, as if they are holding hands or hugging.  It doesn’t really matter whether they were legally married or not; their closeness in death reflects how close they were in life.

If they were separated in life, as in their energy was separate from each other, I usually see them standing apart, with one parent behind the left shoulder and the other parent behind the right shoulder.  In this case it also doesn’t matter whether they were married or divorced… it’s more a statement of their closeness at the time of their demise.

Sometimes four parents will come through and I’ll have to discern who the step parents were and who is connected to whom.  Yes, it can get complicated.  But honestly that’s rare.  I usually only have one deceased person come through, and sometimes they bring through another member of the family.

During readings I will also see parents and deceased siblings come through together, i.e. the sitter’s brother and mother are deceased and they come through to me together.  How they present visually is an indicator of their closeness in life. 

Are they really all together on the other side hanging out all day shooting the breeze?  Yes and no.  From what I’ve been shown, some energies do choose to stick together, and some go their separate ways at death.  I wouldn’t say they’re sitting around shooting the breeze.  I think it’s more that they come together during a reading because of the opportunity to interact with their living loved one, and they use their energy to show me their relationship.  After a reading is over, they go back to what they were doing before the reading.

In short, you stick with the energies of people with whom you’ve made strong loving connections, and you part ways with those you don’t resonate with.  But just because you fight or argue with a loved one while incarnated, doesn’t mean you’ll separate out when you get to the other side.  Where there is love, there is connection.

What is one book or other source you would highly recommend for a complete beginner interested in becoming an intuitive counselor?

You’ll want to develop a very clear connection with your guides, specifically your conduit guide.  And you’ll want to be proficient in counseling.  So I would study the “How To” information of other intuitive counselors such as myself, Colette Baron-Reid, and Sonia Choquette.  Read their books or their blogs, attend their seminars, teleconferences, and workshops.  Or arrange a consult to get detailed answers to the questions that pertain to you in your individual situation.

What do colors in dreams represent?  Aura or chakra colors?  I have had two dreams in a row where the same shade of the colors green and orange have featured prominently in wedding scenes but in different contexts.

Green is the heart chakra color related to compassion, empathy, love, and connection with others.  Orange is the sacral chakra color related to relationships and emotions.  It’s no wonder you saw them at a wedding.  I’d have to know how you felt in the dream to help you better understand why these colors are coming up for you.

In times of personal woe, a lot of people have trouble connecting spiritually. How would you suggest they find comfort if they feel cut off in that way?

Do you have any thoughts about whether the use of antidepressants inhibits a person’s intuitive abilities and/or psychic development?

I’ve never been on antidepressants nor have I known someone who has tried to utilize their intuitive abilities while on antidepressants, so I could only hazard a guess.  Anything that impairs your vibration or ability to connect with your guides is going to impair or inhibit your intuitive abilities and your psychic development, whether that’s alcohol, drugs, shame, fear, anger, anxiety, guilt, etc.  To effectively utilize your psychic faculties you’ll want to be as clear as you can.

What are the top two or three inspiring books you read in 2009?

Most of the books I read in 2009 were related to health and relationships, but I wouldn’t say any of them were particularly inspiring; rather I would say they were informative.  One of my goals in 2010 is to catch up and brush up on the spiritual books out there.  First up is Conversations with God, which I’ve never read, but now feel called to read.  I’m just going to pop by the Hay House website and see what they’ve got on tap.

How do you deal with a deceased person who keeps coming into your dreams and insists she is not dead?

Whoa.  Talk about violation of personal space!  If it were me, I would show them the door, which in this case is the light.  Help them crossover by gently suggesting they are in fact dead, and I would ask the angels to guide them to the other side.  I encountered a fellow many years ago who didn’t know he was dead.  It took me 5 tries to convince him he was dead.  If they won’t go, find out if there is unfinished business they’d like you to help them tie up.  That might be enough to get them to cross over peacefully. 

And what’s your take on crystal healing?

I don’t have a lot of experience with crystal healing.  I recall when I was a teenager trying to use crystals to heal myself when I was ill or in pain.  It never seemed to work, so either it doesn’t work or I was doing it wrong.  My jury is still out on crystals.  I haven’t worked with them enough to tout their benefits just yet.

In order to heal deep emotional wounds do we need people or life situations to open up (trigger) those wounds in order for us to heal them?

No I don’t believe so.  You are capable of deciding how you want to feel about the past, the present, and the future.  It isn’t always easy to hold a loving energy towards a situation, event or person, but it’s always possible.  I find that asking the pain why it’s there is important, and learning the lesson is important too.  Pain and difficulty come when we resist what is, when our expectations are violated, when we feel victimized.  I have found that accepting responsibility for my thoughts, feelings, and actions is very helpful in healing old wounds, as is asking myself how I’d like to feel about the situation.

Does hanging around people with a lower vibration lower my vibrational frequency? And do I have the capacity to become immune?

If you are in a high vibrational state like love, peace, or gratitude and you hang around with someone in a lower vibrational state like anger, for example, then either your vibration will drop or theirs will be raised, or you can both maintain your vibrations if that is your desire.  It is not automatic that yours will lower or theirs will raise.  Guarding against those whose energy lowers ours, though, is something I highly recommend.  Learn how to maintain your higher vibrational state when you are around those who might pull you down.  Be an example for them.  I think we all have the capacity to choose the frequency at which we want to vibrate, but I haven’t personally met anyone yet who doesn’t occasionally drop into a lower vibration.

What is the most empowering lesson that you’ve learned so far from your recent separation? (I hope it’s not too personal or too soon to ask) I just think more people need to see that you can find personal power in “negative” situations. I believe you have a good perspective on life and can get that message across.

Great question.  Most empowering lesson is that I’m learning to rely on myself.  Expressing my own power and authority.  It feels great.  A little scary, but ultimately awesome!  I kill my own spiders, open my own jars, set up my own electronics, I’m a rockstar!    My relationship with Steve is like energy, it was not destroyed in our separation, it merely changed form.  And I’m enjoying getting reacquainted with parts of me that were buried in the relationship.  I’m remembering the power of my own message and am looking forward to sharing it more often and more deeply with my readers.

I have been working on my ability to tune into various energies, such as my guides, angels, and environment. However I am not exactly sure specifically how to tune myself in, outside of guided meditations and visualization. Besides simply concentrating and focusing on that which I want to tune into, can you describe in detail the general “tuning in” process? Sometimes it feels as if I cannot locate my station changing knob.

Tuning in is usually the easy part.  The hard part is trusting that you are tuned in to the being you’re trying to communicate with, being able to interpret and understand what you’re receiving, and having the confidence to act upon it.  Unfortunately it’s beyond the scope of this article to go into the kind of detail we’d need to go into, but I would say to continue to have long conversations with your guides (the longer you go the more tuned in you will be), write down what they’re telling you or showing you, act on it, and see what results you get.  You can also ask your guides to help you tune in better, then get out of your own way (and your own logic) and let them show you how to hear them best.

How can you distinguish the voices of your higher self/spirit guides from those of your ego or mind chatter?

How can you learn to control your visions/premonitions/clarsentience, such as recurring ones happening only when touching a certain person/animal, that will fade when you ask questions instead of giving answers?

If you’re getting repeated visions or premonitions there’s obviously a strong warning in that.  If something you’re seeing is going to come to pass you can either try to prevent it or you can get ready to deal with it.  If you no longer want to receive the premonitions you’ll have to shut down your psychic radio and stop tuning in.  That’s sometimes easier said than done, but maintaining control of when you get information and when you don’t is important.  I had to learn how to stop receiving communication from my guides and deceased people when I wasn’t officially working.  Now my guides can reach me in case of emergency or urgency or when I’m working.  It takes a strong spirit to get my attention when I’m not working.  It does happen but it’s rare now.  Work with your guides.  Tell them what you want and need.  Sometimes I get a metaphor for someone that I just don’t understand and I ask the guides to give it to me again a different way.  This is a two way street.  Let them know what you want and what you can handle and ask them to ease off if you don’t like the kind of communication you’re getting.

Do you have a perspective on ‘protection’ – i.e. managing your field and energy both during sessions and when at parties or out and about like new year’s eve?

Great question.  I was recently at a casino in the evening (rare for me) as I was going to a club to hear a comedian.  I immediately realized I was way too open to be there comfortably.  So many people walking around in a state of arousal, excitement, debauchery, alcohol … many of who had nefarious intentions.  Just a lot of low vibration people (not to say everyone there was that way!  Heaven’s no, but definitely a bunch of energies I don’t normally enjoy being around).  So I had to close my “door” so to speak so I wouldn’t be affected by their energy.  First, I closed up my chakras to be tighter in my body.  So the size of an orange instead of the usual size of a basketball I’m used to.  Then I had to close off my energy by erecting an energy shield around me.  You know the kind I’m talking about, the one that says, “leave me alone” or “I’m not the droid you’re looking for. Move along.”  With practice you can do this too.

When I’m working, it’s the opposite.  I open my chakras very wide and connect them with the infinite divine.  I only do this under the protection of my work environment – my White Room – and in the presence of my conduit guide, Bob.  Managing energy is very important in life.  If you’re too open in a room full of lower vibrational people, you can easily pick up on their energy and take it home with you, much like when I’m in a casino and come home wreaking of smoke even though I never touched a cigarette.

If someone is interested in becoming a psychic medium/intuitive counselor, what should they do on a daily/regular basis to achieve that goal? (besides meditate)

Connect with your conduit guide.  Practice giving readings to friends and family.  Get feedback on your methods.  Then practice on total strangers.  Keep refining your process until you’re very confident in your ability to tune in for anyone.  Let your guides teach you as well.  Raise your vibration and keep it high when you are working.  Don’t be afraid of making mistakes; they will happen.  Don’t be afraid of failure.  Just keep working at it until you are comfortable with the results.

Do you have any new year’s resolutions? 

No.  Not sure I like the whole New Year’s Resolution thing, but I do like writing out my goals for the year, so I’ve already done some work on that.  This year will be all about creating products, teleconferences, more videos, and maybe a workshop or two.

When you give a reading, has anyone ever had and shared a psychic hit on you?  What is the etiquette for that sort of happening?

Do you mean that while I’m giving a reading someone gets information for me?  Yes that has happened a few times.  I do read for a lot of other psychics and mediums, some of them in training and some of them relatively famous.  I also read for clients who are just really intuitive.  And on occasion someone will tell me, usually at the end of the reading, some information they’re getting about me.  I don’t mind receiving it, so I’m happy when that happens.  I’ve also had very intuitive friends and colleagues send me impromptu information they’re getting about me.  I like that too.

The other morning, not quite awake, I heard a woman’s voice call my name very distinct accent, I’m sure it was my spirit guide. How do I hear more, like answers to questions?

The time between sleeping and becoming awake is often a time when we pick up on snatches of conversation at another frequency.  It could have been a spirit guide, or it could have been an auditory hallucination, or a hypnogogic hallucination.  It’s a hard time to get answers to questions.  I would work on lucid dreaming if you want to use your sleep time to communicate with your guides.

Could you ask your guides about free will? Say if you wanted to pray for the protection of someone or if you wanted to perform distance healing, would the angels/guides be limited in helping those people because the request doesn’t come from them directly?

Curses and prayers get through with equal effectiveness.  They either bounce off someone’s aura or they impact.  Whether it happens or not depends on the vibration and intention of the person receiving the curse or prayer or healing for that matter.  You can accept or reject either “gift.” 

If you have a reading that states a possibility for your future, but then a decision you make changes the ending, will the universe bring you back on track somehow?

Depends on whether you want it to or not and if you’re a vibrational match for the path you desire.  Like you’ve correctly presupposed, you can change your future, it is not set in stone.  If, during a reading, a psychic tells you something is likely to happen, you can take steps to alter that outcome.  Just change course.  If, however, you change course but you’re still a vibrational match for that thing happening, you could easily slip back into your old trajectory.  At all times and in all ways you are responsible for the outcome of your decisions.  So always think carefully as you move along the path. 

Do you believe in Jesus?

Depends on your definition.  I believe there is a highly conscious being (one of many actually) who incarnated on Earth to help remind us of who we really are.  I’m not sure when he lived or how many times he’s been back since.  I’ve encountered an energy on the other side that felt like the Christ energy to me, and it was quite humbling.  When I think of Jesus, I think of the highly ascended consciousness.  We are all One, so if you believe in Jesus I hope you look in the mirror and see him staring back at you.  You have access to all of his wisdom and power.

Can psychic powers be gained with yoga and your views on Yogic siddhis?

Psychic powers could be accessed while you’re doing yoga, sure.  Anything that puts you in a higher vibration or balances your mind, body or spirit will help you in the development of your psychic faculties.  I don’t know what a Yogic Siddhi is, so I’ll defer to those who know more on that subject.

Answer:  Not usually, no.  In my many experiences of being outside my body I was unable to move objects in the physical world either through touch or telekinesis.  Nor would I necessarily expect to be able to affect physical reality while on the astral plane.  Let’s look at it logically.

Your physical body vibrates at a certain density, a lower density than your energetic or astral body.  So your physical body is fully capable of grasping a cup, opening a door, and walking around for example, because those objects are on the same plane as your physical body.  Your astral body is energy without physical form and is roaming around on a different plane.  Just as in your physical body you cannot “touch” anything on the astral plane, so too on the astral plane you cannot “touch” anything on the physical plane.

One of the reasons you can so easily float through a wall or window while in an astral state is precisely because the wall exists on the material, physical plane, where you are no longer vibrating.  You may see the wall in your astral state, but it is not on the same plane as you anymore so you easily pass through it like it isn’t there.  One thing that can affect how well and how easily you move through the wall, though, is your expectation of being able to do so.  Many people, when they first go astral, assume they must maneuver around physical objects; but soon you learn that you can easily fly, float or fling yourself through them quite easily.

One thing you can do to the physical world while in an astral state is be sensed by people who are awake.  I’ve had experiences where I was astral, floated on over to a friend’s house while they were awake, tried to get them to see me or notice me, and have them tell me the next day they “felt my presence” at the same time I was there.  This is difficult however.  Most people who are awake are not at all attuned to the astral plane.  That would be like tuning in to a cable channel you don’t normally get just to see if something other than static is coming through at that moment.

I do believe, though I’ve never personally experienced it, that it’s possible with great effort to do something to the physical world while in an astral state.  If you’ve seen the movie, Ghost, with Patrick Swayze, he eventually learns how to move a physical object (the penny) but it takes great effort.  You have to force the energy of your astral body to vibrate at a lower density to bring it into phase with the physical object you’re trying to move.  That’s tough.  So while I believe in theory it could work, I think you’d have to really practice and spend a lot of time trying in order to get it done.

Meeting up with another astral person is possible while in an astral state, because you’ll come into phase with them.  Both of you would have to be astral at the same time and know where to meet and when.

Answer:  Clairvoyance means clear-seeing.  It is the psychic faculty that goes through the third eye chakra located between your eyebrows.  With clairvoyance you see images in your mind’s eye, the same place you see dreams at night with your physical eyes closed.  It’s the same place you go when you daydream or remember an event from your past.  We all have the ability to see in our mind’s eye.

When you use this ability to do psychic readings, something a little different is happening.   You’re opening your mind to receiving information that will help you or help someone else.  In other words, you’re receiving an energetic download from the universe, guides, Source, angels, etc. which you must interpret so that you can help others, as in a psychic reading, or get greater clarity on your own path.

So if you’re already able to tune in to these images, how do you discern which are from “out there” and which are just fear, logic, or ego-driven?  How do you get to a place where you know for sure when you are receiving an energetic download from spirit or when you are just thinking with your own mind? 

Get High
Not on drugs!  On vibration.  You need to get to a high vibration before opening yourself up to receiving clairvoyant images.  Do this with meditation, deep breathing, or putting yourself in a state of love, joy, and gratitude.  If you do this work in a low vibrational state such as anger, fear, depression, or guilt, you may not connect with the beings who have your highest interest at heart.  It doesn’t have to be a permanent state, just get yourself to a high vibration before you start.  My free ebook, 10 Ways to Raise Your Vibration in Under 10 Minutes will help you with this.

Boot Up Your Chakras
Your chakras are the energy centers in your body.  They’re like the batteries of your soul.  When was the last time you replaced the batteries or made sure they were working?  Read my article on chakras and boot them up before you tune in.  Clearing and opening your chakras will clear away any negative emotional residue that might be clinging to you.  And it’s also a signal to your guides that you’re tuning in.  Think of opening your chakras like extending your antenna.

Climb to Greater Heights
Along with raising your vibration, you need to raise your energetic frequency.  This means sloughing off the daily worries and focusing your mind on connecting with the beings who are going to send you the information you need to help you on your path.  So once you’ve gotten to a deep meditative place and opened your chakras, raise your frequency.  I do this by climbing a staircase in my mind.  I count as I go and continue to do deep breathing.  Counting keeps you from thinking about what you’re going to have for dinner, the bills you need to pay, and the other flotsam and jetsam that invade your mind when you meditate.

Find Your Guides
You don’t want information from just anyone.  That would be dangerous.  If you’re using clairvoyance to do a reading for someone else, you’ll want to connect with your conduit guide (mine is named Bob), so he or she can help you tune in to other people’s spirit guides.  If you’re using your clairvoyance to get information about your own path, just connect with your own spirit guides.  If you haven’t done that yet, get on it.  It’s really important to connect with higher vibrational beings before you open yourself to receiving an energetic download that could affect your life.

Learn to Interpret the Information
Receiving images isn’t that difficult, relatively speaking.  You’ve been using your mind’s eye for years.  Interpreting what you get is what’s difficult.  We’re always receiving information; from other people, from fear, from guides, from expectations and memory.  When you’re receiving information from a spirit guide or other high vibrational being, sometimes they send metaphors.  Symbols.  You have to figure out what they mean, just like you would in a dream.  This takes practice, but it’s critical if you want to get accurate information for yourself or others.

Practice
If you’re planning to use your clairvoyance to do readings for others, nothing takes the place of practice.  I did more than 100 readings with people to make sure I was interpreting the energetic downloads properly.  It wasn’t until I recognized the difference between my own stuff and stuff coming from the guides that I went professional.  Keep practicing until you’re sure when you’re connecting and when you’re not. 

If you’re using clairvoyance for yourself, you still need to practice.  Apply the information you get and see if it worked out the way you expected.  In other words, test the information on yourself.  If you got it wrong, it could be a problem receiving the info or a problem interpreting it. Keep practicing.

Trust
I can’t stress this enough.  You must learn to trust your guides and the information coming through.  I can’t tell you how many times in the beginning I got information that didn’t make any sense to me, but which made perfect sense to the person I was reading for.  One time during a reading I got an image of a woman putting out a place setting (plate, fork, knife, napkin, glass, etc.) but in the image she put the knife and fork on the wrong sides and her boss yelled at her.  So I’m getting ready to interpret the image and she tells me it doesn’t need interpretation.  Turns out she was a set decorator and just a few days prior to the reading she actually did set a place and put the knife and fork on the wrong sides and her boss yelled at her. 

In another reading I saw my client as a 6-year-old girl on a bicycle and she ran into a tree, knocked her tooth out and brought it home to show her mom.  Again I thought it was a metaphor, but she told me that really did happen to her when she was 6.  So I learned that sometimes the images I get are not metaphors at all.  It takes time and experience to know the difference.

We all have psychic abilities.  Not everyone develops them.  Although the discussion above dealt with clairvoyance, it’s very similar with clairaudience, clairsentience, and claircognizance, or really any psychic tool.  Give your abilities the time and attention they deserve, and before you know it, you’ll have an excellent tool you can use to make your life and the lives of others even better!

Answer:  My mom and I were talking on the phone one day about death and whether we wanted to be buried or cremated.  She said she was afraid to be cremated because she doesn’t want to feel the burning pain.  I was sort of surprised she would even think that was possible.  Was she under the mistaken belief that when you die you just sit around in your body, conscious and bored in your coffin?  Trapped in your now lifeless shell?

If anyone else is under the impression that you will feel anything that happens to your body once you leave it, rest assured that once you die, the connection is severed and your body becomes a shell, incapable of registering pain.  So whether you are cremated, autopsied, or buried in a coffin, don’t be afraid that you will feel any of it.

When you die, the astral cord that has connected and tethered you to your body during your life gets severed.  Once that happens, you aren’t getting back into your body!  All of your consciousness is in your spirit, your soul, your ghost-like form.  You will look at your body the way a peanut might look at its shell, “Thanks for sheltering me, but you can go now.”  The body is just the organic casing for the peanutty goodness that is your essence.

Energetically speaking, however, how long do you stay attached to the body before you cross over?  If you die unexpectedly, like from an accident or murder, you will probably hang around your body for a while;  anywhere from 20 minutes to several days.  Often people who die suddenly don’t figure it out right away or resist accepting that they have died, so they hover around their body trying to make sense of their current situation.  Once the body is cremated, autopsied or buried these people usually get the idea that there is no going back and they begin to move on, cross over, look for the light, or try to remain earthbound if that’s important to them (as is often the case with people who have unfinished urgent business).

Cremation is safe for your soul.  (Hmm, that would make a good bumper sticker).  However, I do think it’s a good idea to wait 3 or 4 days after a person dies before you dispose of the body.  That seems sensible to me.  It gives the living time to adjust, and it gives the dead time to let go.  Death can be somewhat traumatic for people who weren’t ready for it.

I told my mom I wanted to be cremated so I didn’t take up unnecessary space on some otherwise beautiful land.  A nice roaring funeral pyre in the forest with some Celtic music playing in the back would be welcome too.  How would you like to honor your shell for its lifetime of service?

Answer:  Most of the characters in your dreams are going to be constructs of your own subconscious mind.  There will be no other consciousness in your dream except you, so anyone else you see there is just a manifestation of your subconscious.

However, dreams are an excellent place to meet up with other conscious beings including your higher self, your spirit guides, angels, ascended masters, celestial beings, and even deceased relatives. You could also meet up with your friends in a dream, but this is extraordinarily rare as it is extremely difficult to sync up your dreams and brainwaves, and most people lack the skills necessary to share dreams with other sleeping people.

In my own experience, I have met up with deceased relatives who have passed on some information to me.  I’ve met with my spirit guides and higher self.  And I’ve experienced a shared dream (where me and a friend were both having the same dream on the same night and seeing the dream from our own perspectives) a few times with a few select people under some very unusual circumstances.  Like I said, that’s really rare.

If you are not lucid in your dream, chances are excellent that anyone else in there is a construct of your subconscious mind.  If you’re not lucid and there is another conscious being in your dream, you’ll never know it.

On a few occasions my dreams have also been invaded by conscious entities that were not friendly.  I repeat, not friendly!  I got the heck out of there as fast as I could.  They were crafty and well versed in the art of energy siphoning. If this paragraph causes you to back up, freak out, or decide I’m nuts, then you haven’t been experimenting enough on the dream plane.  Not that you necessarily should, mind you, but for those in the advanced class I wanted to mention it.

The dream plane is an in-between place.  Think of it like a launching pad to go exploring in many different directions.  Be mindful of who is in there with you.

Now, all that said, some people report having intense conversations with me in their dreams and people want to know if it’s my higher self they’re having the conversation with.  That is possible.  You could be having a dream with your friend in it and you feel like they are really there, but if your friend doesn’t remember the experience then you were probably with their higher self.  It depends on the situation and the dream and how lucid you were and how conscious the other person seemed, but it is possible to communicate with the higher self of a friend of yours.

Bottom line is this:  If you’re in a dream and you’re communicating with someone, it’s either a product of your subconscious mind, or you’re really communicating with them but if so they’ll remember the same dream the next day, or it’s their higher self.  Without being in the dream with you it would be hard for me to say which of the three you’re experiencing.  The clarity of the dream and communication and your level of lucidity are the best indicators of the reality of the conscious mind in there with you.  The only reliable way to know if it was really a friend is if he tells you the same dream the next day.

In the meantime, dream responsibly.  Learn lucid dreaming.  Stay conscious.  Be alert.  And don’t let unfriendlies suck at your energy.

Answer:  The way you’re using the term “at rest” to me means the spirit has crossed over fully, has accepted the light, has gone through their life review, come to terms with their deeds, and is now kicking back with a brewsky on the other side (metaphorically speaking of course!).   If that’s what you mean by “at rest” then a spirit would not be at rest if any of those components are not fulfilled.

So let’s take each component in order.  First, crossing over fully.  Some spirits hang around the earth plane.  I often see this with people who were murdered or had a sudden, unexpected death through an accident.  They either don’t know they’re dead or they aren’t ready to accept it.  Or they are waiting for their killer to be brought to justice, or they are still very attached to their earthly life and can’t let it go.  They have not crossed over yet and are earthbound.  This spirit would not be at rest.

Now let’s take the case of a spirit who is ready to let go of their earthly existence but fears judgment.  These people resist the light because they fear they will be sent to Hell or that there is some horrible punishment coming up.  They end up stuck between earth and the ether, feeding off the energy of the living to resist the light.  They’re not waiting for justice like in the previous case, they’re not waiting for some event to take place, they have detached from their earthly life but don’t want to go into the light.  They are not at rest either.  Not by a longshot.

Next are the people who detach from their earthly life and go into the light, sometimes with great eagerness and sometimes a little hesitantly.  They get to their life review and are horrified by the pain they’ve caused others.  They can get stuck in a situation where they replay events over and over again for whatever reason: to endure the pain they caused others, to understand their choices better, to make different choices, etc.  Sometimes spirits can spend a lot of time here, unnecessarily, but we all let go at our own pace.  There are spirits and angels there helping you process it all and encouraging you to forgive and move on.  A spirit in this place is “not at rest yet” but is definitely on their way.

And lastly, there are those who cross over, completely severing their attachment to this earthly life, have their life review, process it all and accept it, and move forward into the welcoming embrace of the afterlife and all their dearly departed loved ones (and animal companions!).  These spirits are very much at rest.  That doesn’t mean they don’t care about loved ones here on Earth.  They tune in periodically to see what’s up, but they’re also creating a new experience on the other side that isn’t part of their old incarnated human life.

I hope at this point you’re not thinking, “Dear God!  I don’t want to be hanging around in a disembodied state totally afraid of the light!  And what if I don’t pass my life review and decide to punish myself?  Gack!”  The vast majority of spirits cross over just fine, have a lovely life review over tea and pastries, and make it to the other side in time for the party.  Don’t worry.  Learn to forgive yourself now so when you see what you’ve done to others during your life review you’ll have understanding instead of regret.  But like I said, most people cross over just fine and are guided through their life review by compassionate and understanding beings.

So how do you know what state your dearly departed are in?  A medium would know what state a spirit was in when she tuned in to them.  A person without the ability to tune in to deceased energy would have a hard time knowing what state a particular spirit is in.  However, you can often pick up clues from dreams.  Dreams are a place/plane where incarnated individuals such as yourself can hook up with reasonable accuracy and clarity with other beings, including deceased relatives and friends.  Are you dreaming about the individual and if so, is he coming to you and telling you he’s just fine or do you see him suffering? 

If you ever encounter a spirit that you believe is earth-bound or suffering in some way or resisting the light, you can communicate with them energetically and try to help them cross over and accept the light.  Talk to them.  Meditate to get yourself into a higher vibration.  Hold an object they used to own which will help you zero in on their energy (sometimes).  Encourage them to go into the light and not to fear judgment.  Encourage them to release their fear.  Help them understand that nothing bad will happen to them in the light no matter what they’ve done on earth.  Sometimes a spirit sticks around when people are heavily grieving.  Let such a spirit know that you’ll be okay without them so they will move on.  It’s not healthy to be earthbound.  If they’re waiting for justice to be served (and I’ve encountered people who are still waiting 60 years later!) help them detach from the tangled web of karma and move on, knowing their killer will not truly get away with anything.

It sucks to be stuck here waiting for justice.  It sucks to put yourself in a self-imposed hell and avoid the loving light of the divine.  Don’t do it!  Educate yourself now so that when you get to the other side you can fly right through.  Death is a time for rest and rebirth, for reconnecting with Source, not for punishment and fear.  Rest easy I say.
