In my email just this past week, I received these three gems…

“A psychic told me I would have a new job in 6 months, and I waited, but it didn’t happen. Was the psychic wrong?”

“A psychic told me I would find my soul mate in 4 months but that didn’t happen. Does that mean he’s gone forever and I’m doomed to be alone?”

“A psychic said my medical problem would clear up in 2 weeks but it actually got worse. Why was she wrong?”

This is one of my pet peeves with many of the practicing intuitives out there. They tell their clients exactly when something will happen, and when it doesn’t, the client is very disappointed, thinks the psychic was a fraud, or worse, they feel like they missed out on a chance to get something they really wanted.

I understand that as a client you want to know when you’re going to get what you desire. But no psychic can reliably predict when things will happen because the future is not set in stone. Because you have free will, every action you take will either bring you closer to or further from your desire, so how does a psychic know in advance what actions you will take with your free will? Answer… he doesn’t.

So why do some psychics give you a time prediction then if nothing is set in stone? Some psychics think that in order to sound amazing and magical, they have to give specific dates. Some psychics receive a date, but don’t realize it’s mercurial. And some psychics will tell you what you want to hear so you’ll be happy with your reading. Be wary.

When I read for my clients and they ask me when something is going to happen, I sometimes get a time frame, like 6 months, but with the caveat that it’s only going to work out if the client does X, Y, or Z. And even then, a client can make something happen faster, or can make something take longer, by their actions.

A much better question to ask is “How can I get X, Y or Z as quickly as possible?” Then the guides can give advice about how to adjust your course, your thinking, or your actions in order to obtain what you desire in the easiest and shortest amount of time possible.

Does that make sense?

When I get a date, time frame, or an age at which my client is going to achieve or obtain something, I always let the client know that the time frame is based on their current trajectory and their current actions, and that they can affect that time frame with their actions and decisions. So if you don’t like where you’re headed and how long it’s going to take you to get there, you can absolutely rev the engine and push the accelerator and get there sooner. Likewise, you can stave off disaster with some foreknowledge of what’s coming on your path and how soon it’s going to impact you if you don’t make changes now. That’s actually one of the best reasons to get a reading with an intuitive.

Plus, accidents happen. You may be on course to get something you’ve intended to get for a long time, but due to the free will actions of others, you may be knocked off course. When that happens, you’re going to circle the airport of life and try landing again. It’s not denied to you, just delayed.

When you get a reading from an ethical, responsible, professional intuitive, they will empower you to make your own decisions and obtain your own rewards. They won’t rob you of your power by telling you something will or will not happen.

Can you imagine how you would feel if you thought you were supposed to meet your future husband at Starbucks on April 2, 2014 at 3pm and you got stuck in traffic and couldn’t make it? Would you stop looking for a mate? And what happens if you meet a fantastic man 3 weeks before April 2, 2014? Do you tell him to buzz off because he didn’t arrive on the right day?

Next time you have a reading, ask empowering questions.

Instead of: When will I get the job I really want?
Ask: What do I need to do now to ensure I’ll have a job I love within the next year?

Instead of: When will I meet Mr. Right?
Ask: What beliefs are currently preventing me from having the relationship I desire, and what beliefs can I adopt that would help me manifest a great relationship soon?

Instead of: When am I going to die?
Ask: If I continue with my current way of eating, will it cause any significant health problems down the road?

Instead of: When will I be able to hear my guides?
Ask: How can I adjust my methods so I can hear my guides more clearly and more often?

Be very wary of a psychic who tells you when you are going to have or achieve something. She might be right, she might be wrong, but it’s not really for her to say. She should guide you and give you options, not lock you on a road that’s all or nothing. If you’re in a forest and you’re headed for a lake, I can tell you how soon you’ll reach the lake IF you stay on your current path, going at your current pace. But along the way you might get distracted by the bear that’s headed in your direction, or you may veer off and climb that tree over there before getting to the lake.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is to take time predictions with a grain of salt. Use the information and the estimate to determine if you want to go faster towards the goal or put on the brakes entirely and head off in a new direction. You are not locked onto one path.

Sometimes I get emails from people who are very urgently trying to warn me that the work I’m doing comes from Satan, not God. They let me know that the spirit guides I *think* I’m speaking with are just demons or Satan in disguise. They quote a few Bible verses at me, they tell me to find Jesus, and they warn me that my soul is at stake. Some even make death threats because their God has told them to smite the psychics and mediums.

When I first got these emails, years ago, it distressed me. I wrote back to people to try to explain myself and why I felt I wasn’t going to Hell. It didn’t really matter. Most of the people used fake email addresses and didn’t want to get a response. Those that did, would just come back with longer Bible passages and more evidence that I was in league with Satan.

I realized they were the ones with the problem, not me.

So I started sending back joke answers. “No, I don’t work for Satan, he offers no health insurance and I hear he fires people all the time.” Most people weren’t amused by my clever rejoinders.

Recently a guy wrote to me and was very worried about my soul. I’m touched, honestly, that people want to make sure I’m going to Heaven. He told me the voices I think I’m hearing are really satanic demons who are tricking me. I wrote back to him and said, “So these demons that I’m communicating with, they want me to help suicidal people find a reason to live? They want to help find missing people? They want people to live these really happy lives, become encouraged, inspired, and motivated to do wonderful things on this planet? Because that’s what they’re doing.”

He was quiet for a while. But he wrote back a few days later and said, “Oh, I didn’t realize that’s what you did with your abilities. It does seem odd that Satan would want you to help so many people. I’ll have to think about that. Maybe he wants them to be happy now so he can hurt them more later.” Yeah, maybe it’s a big old setup. Never heard from that guy again.

Then a few days ago a woman emailed and told me she was cruising my site and was loving the articles because I talk a lot about compassion, helping others, oneness, love, and connection, and she really resonated with that. But she was distressed because she couldn’t see any articles where I mentioned that Jesus was my Lord and Savior. She wanted to make sure I knew that if I didn’t accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior that I was going to Hell.

So I wrote back to her and told her I appreciated her words and her sincere desire to help me. I let her know that God’s gift has allowed me to assist others, bring comfort, and help them be happier. She responded, “But you still haven’t mentioned Jesus.” I responded with, “So if I don’t expressly mention Jesus, then all this good work I’m doing to help others is going to land me in Hell? Do you think God is angry that I’m using this gift to save people’s lives? Should I stop?”

She said, “Unless you praise Jesus, you and your site are just satanic, and you will not be saved. You clearly worship Satan and all those articles you’ve written and all those people you’ve helped were really helped by Satan.”

So I sent her one last email that said, “Well how do I know you’re not Satan disguising yourself as a Christian in order to get me to stop doing God’s work?” I never heard back from her.

When you think about it, though, it makes a lot more sense that these folks who write to me are actually the demons working for Satan. They are trying to stop me from helping others. They’re trying to prevent me from bringing people out of dark places and into the light. And they have even threatened to kill me in the name of their Lord.

I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty dark stuff. I wonder what Jesus would think.

Question: Hey, Erin, I’ve been to 5 different psychics to get information about my love life, and I’ve gotten basically 5 different answers. Three said love was coming, one said no one was coming, and one said someone was coming in 2 years. What am I supposed to do with this information? Are they all fake? Were some real? How do I know which are which? – Harrashi

Answer: How many psychics does it take to completely confuse you and cause you to stop in your tracks? Why don’t psychics agree on what’s going to happen to someone? How are you supposed to know what to do if your psychics don’t all agree? Here’s my advice:

Stop giving your power away!!

Never give your power to a psychic (or anyone else for that matter). Going to a professional intuitive to get insight, wisdom and information isn’t a bad thing as long as you remember that your fate and your path are entirely your responsibility. Go to a psychic for information and options, but not for a prediction.

Most trajectories can be changed, so if a psychic tells you something WILL happen, whether it actually DOES happen is largely determined by how close the incident is to happening and how many other free willed people are involved.

For example, during readings with my client I have sometimes seen a pregnancy that is occurring right at that moment. Sometimes even my clients don’t yet know they are pregnant.

During other readings I will see a major health crisis that is about to hit someone hard and be life-threatening. I can see that with certainty because it is in progress.

I can tell if someone you’ve just started dating is a good match for you. I can tell if someone you’ve been married to for 20 years is still a good match or not.

I can tell if you are in a financial crisis and how to get out of it, but I can’t tell you if you’re going to win the lottery or what numbers to play.

If an 18 year old student asks me what his career path is GOING to be, I will see options, not certainties. When this student asks about career paths, I might see 10 different options. However, what makes a reading valuable is that I can also see which options lead to happiness, fulfillment, and purpose, and I can tell a client how to get onto that path and make it a success. Will they then go out and choose that path and be a success? That’s up to them, not me.

A psychic cannot make you walk your path, she can only hand you the map with a circled destination. It’s up to you to decide you’ll walk the path, to gear up appropriately, and not to get distracted along the way.

So if you ask 5 different psychics what’s going to happen to your love life they should tell you how to obtain the relationship that is best for you, or they should tell you why you’re not a vibrational match for a relationship at this point in time. They should give you insight and information.

But receiving an actual prediction sounds amazing doesn’t it? “On Sunday, March 11, at the local Starbucks you will run into Mr. Right! He’ll be tall, dark, and handsome, and holding a soy latte. Go get him, Tiger!” But when a psychic does that, she is doing a horrible disservice to her clients. She is robbing them of their power. What if Mr. Right comes along sooner and you’re not looking for him? What if on March 11 your handy dandy soul mate gets into a car accident and doesn’t get to Starbucks in time? Is it over for you?

Your spirit guides are always working on your behalf to urge, guide, and nudge circumstances and people into position, but it’s not a science. Free will can screw up even the most well-planned “chance” meeting. A psychic is tuning in to your guides to relay some information that might help this chance meeting take place. So a psychic can be very valuable to help you avoid wasting time, effort, and energy (and sometimes money) doing something that does not lead to a desired outcome.

The best approach to use with a psychic is not to ask her what’s going to happen, but to instead ask, “What do my guides most need me to know to help me on my path?” That’s the question I ask people’s guides during a reading. That’s the one that gives my client the most powerful answer.

If you absolutely need to know what’s going to happen every single day of your life then you’re letting life own you. You have free will and you can make your own destiny.

And to answer the original question most succinctly, the reason that multiple psychics don’t give the exact same predictions is because they are choosing one path and presenting it like it’s the only path. It sounds cool, but it’s not the best way to present information.

Find a psychic who empowers you and helps you navigate the path, not one who wants to strip you of your power.

If you’re a professional intuitive, as in someone who uses their intuitive abilities to provide helpful advice or information to clients, then you probably know that if you do too much of this work you can feel a little drained energetically and physically.

When I first started doing readings, I was sometimes doing 8-12 per day. By 5pm I would often plop myself down on my bed, hold my head in my hands, and feel like I’d been hit by a mack truck.

That’s when I realized I couldn’t continue doing that many readings or I was going to jeopardize my own health. I went to my guides and asked them what to do. They gave me a better way to do readings, and taught me how to shut down when I was done for the day. I want to share what I’ve learned in case it’s useful to those of you who are already professional intuitive or thinking about becoming a professional.

The Wrong Way to Do Readings
When I first started doing readings, I would meditate, raise my vibration, and go sit in my “garden” with my higher self and ask my clients’ higher selves to come sit with me and tell me what they wanted my client to know. That worked great, but I found myself tired at the end of the day and I also found that my “garden” was cluttered with other people’s energy, not just my own. It’s like hosting a party and more and more guests come and you’ve got to keep them fed and watered, day after day. They were “drinking all my wine” and I didn’t feel right kicking them out.

The Right Way to Do Readings
So one day when I was on my way to my “garden” my guides gave me a detour. I ended up in a room that was pure white light. I call it my White Room. Inside I met Bob, my conduit guide. Bob explained that he was there to act as a conduit between me and my clients’ spirit guides. Nifty right?

Bob’s job was to act as a bouncer of sorts. He let in the spirits that were authorized to attend a reading, and when I was done, he would escort them out of the White Room with a hug and a mint. This worked great. No more lingering energies. No more siphoning of my energy. Bob kept me guarded and secure.

Shutting It Down
My White Room is like a virtual office in my mind. I go there to do readings, I leave the room when I’m done and lock it behind me. Bob stays behind and does paper work. Having a White Room to go to during readings also helped me stop doing drive-by readings for people when I’m out shopping. If a person absolutely needs me to go give them a message, Bob lets the guide in, I get the message, pass it along, and keep shopping. It’s rare though. When I’m off-duty, I’m pretty off.

Another tactic I have for disconnecting from the ether and reconnecting with the earth is that once I’m done with readings for the day, I turn off my meditative music and blast some rock ‘n roll. That grounds me instantly. I sing a little, shimmy in my chair, and do something very mundane like pay bills or answer some emails.

The last thing I want to do is still be connected to the ether when I’m picking the kids up from school, making dinner, or helping with homework.

If you are a professional intuitive and you’re working with clients for several hours a day, it’s a really healthy idea to have a tune-in and a shut-down procedure so that you maintain healthy boundaries between you and the spirit world, and so that you can function with more energy during your day.

I hear from other intuitives the ways they ground themselves after a heavy day of readings. Eating, exercising, drinking, watching tv, taking a bath, taking a walk, or talking to a friend are the common answers I hear. Just find something that works for you.

Oh, always thank your guides before you leave for the day. Before I leave my White Room I always give Bob a hug and a big thank you. Otherwise, I don’t get my mint!
