The beginning of a new year is a wonderful time to focus and get clarity on how you want your year to go. Here are 6 ways to make this year your best year ever.
Take stock of where you are right now
You have to know where you’re starting from before you can make changes. For example, you wouldn’t want to start running if you aren’t physically capable of walking. Knowing where you are will help you set realistic goals for where you’d like to be.
To take stock, make a list of the key areas of your life such as career, finances, health, relationships, spirituality, social life, etc. Then jot down some notes on each one that indicate what’s happening in that area. I also like to put a number between 1 and 10 to indicate to myself how happy I am with each area.
Remove toxic situations and/or people from your life
What you tolerate persists. Much of the time we think we just have to make due or tolerate bad situations, but that isn’t always the case. Make a list of the people, situations, or things that engender negative feelings in you. Then very candidly determine whether it’s something you can easily drop or whether it’s something you will have to change over time.
Perhaps you have a really toxic boss. If you can’t quit your job immediately, start making plans to find a new place to work. Don’t become complacent and learn how to tolerate it better; find a way to remove it or change it. Perhaps you’re in a relationship that does not make you happy. Be willing to release it so you can both find other partners more suitable to you.
Make a plan
Once you’ve taken stock of your current situation and what’s working and not working for you, make a plan to fix or improve each area that isn’t to your liking. Write down ideas for changing what’s happening.
For example, if you are not in a relationship and you want to be, make a list of the actions you will take to find a great partner.
If you are unhappy with your career, determine if there’s a way to make it exciting again or if you need to start training for a new career path.
You don’t have to make changes overnight, but if you write down a plan you can work on it patiently and diligently. You’ll find that by the end of the year you are much further along than when you started.
Attract more of what you love
You don’t have to just fix things that are broken. You can also do more of the things that excite you.
If you love traveling, see if you can figure out a way to do more of it this year. Perhaps taking shorter trips or pooling resources with friends can get you traveling even more than before.
If you love fine dining, make a list of the restaurants you want to try and go down your list as the year progresses. Invite special friends to dine with you.
Dream something new
In addition to dropping the negative and attracting more of what you already love, you can also start working on manifesting a new dream.
Think about something you would love to do that you haven’t done before. Perhaps you can take a class, or join a club, try a new activity, or attract new people into your life.
Sometimes we get stuck in a rut and get too used to doing what we’ve always done. Try something new this year and see how you like it.
Practice more self-care
If you’re one of those people who does a lot for others, or you’re running around super busy all the time, make a plan to slow down sometimes and do for yourself.
Make sure you’re scheduling time just for you, whether that’s a hot bath, a book and some tea, or skiing the slopes, going fishing, or playing poker with friends. You need time to recharge your batteries.
You can make this year stellar by paying conscious attention to what’s going on in your life and making a plan to alter your course. You have the power to make this year your best year ever!
