Typically, when a person passes away, they slip out of their body, are greeted by deceased loved ones or angelic energies, and are gently guided through a life review before settling into their new existence as an energy being. That’s the short version of what happens when we die.
Why Do Some Souls Resist Crossing Over?
But sometimes, souls resist crossing over. They do this for a wide variety of reasons:
- Sudden or unexpected death – they need time to understand and accept what happened.
- Attachment to loved ones – they don’t want to leave, especially if those loved ones are vulnerable.
- Fear of judgment – they delay crossing to avoid being sent to “the bad place.”
- Seeking justice – they were murdered and want to see if their killer will be caught.
- Unfinished business – they feel they have something important left to do on Earth.
Whatever the reason, these souls fight to stay tethered to their bodies, desperately trying to hold on to life.
Real Experiences of Souls Who Resisted Death
I’ve personally witnessed this struggle many times:
My Friend Rochie
The first time I saw this was when my friend, Rochie, drowned during a scuba diving incident off Catalina. She fought to stay in her body but was told by those on the other side that there was too much brain damage. If she had come back she would have been brain-dead and in a coma for the rest of her life. Only after understanding this did she finally let herself pass on.
Michael Jackson
I saw it again when Michael Jackson died. He stayed near his body, moving with it from place to place, bargaining to re-merge with it, but was told it could no longer house his soul. Eventually, he let go and crossed over completely.
Heath Ledger
Heath Ledger also fought to return to life once he realized he was dying, but like the others, he was unsuccessful.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner
The most recent example came this past week with the passing of Malcolm-Jamal Warner. When I tuned into his energy, what I saw broke my heart. He was frantic, pleading, “Please, PLEASE! I cannot leave my family. I need to be there for them. I HAVE to get back.”
His energy was powerful and raw, but again, if the body can no longer house the soul, it cannot return. Very reluctantly he released his claim on his body, comforted his loved ones as best he could from the other side, and allowed himself to cross over.
Do You Lose Connection With Loved Ones After Crossing Over?
People often ask me, “If I cross over, won’t I be disconnected from my family forever?” The answer is a resounding no. When you cross over, you can still visit and interact with your living loved ones. There is no reason to linger in limbo—please, allow yourself to cross over fully.
Finding Peace With Death
Death is inevitable, but it’s hard to leave this life when you don’t feel ready. All you can do is make sure your loved ones know how much you care, take care of yourself as best you can, and cherish the time you do have.
And rest assured—no matter when you leave, you will reunite with all your loved ones on the other side.
