Have you ever stopped to think about what your soul enjoys most about being here?
When we think about spirituality, we often focus on the big things. We wonder what lessons we’re meant to learn, why certain challenges happen or what our life purpose is. Is there a supreme being guiding our path or are we just atoms on a rock in space? Those questions matter, but they’re not the whole story.
After thousands of intuitive readings over the years, I’ve come to believe that our souls don’t come to Earth only to grow through hardship and struggle. They also come here to experience the incredible beauty of being alive. Many of the things we take for granted are experiences a soul can’t have until it steps into a human body.
Your Senses Are a Gift
Your soul doesn’t smell fresh rain or taste warm chocolate chip cookies straight from the oven. It doesn’t feel the warmth of the sun on your skin after a long winter or the cool breeze that arrives just before sunset.
As souls in the ether, we’re conscious and aware; we vibrate at high frequencies and commune as one. But we don’t experience the physical world the way we do while we’re here. Every sensation is part of the adventure.
Think about your favorite meal. The smell, the first bite, the texture, the comfort it brings. Or think about the feeling of sinking into a hot bath after a stressful day, wrapping yourself in a soft blanket, or hearing your favorite song come on unexpectedly. These are uniquely human experiences that your soul can’t have without a physical body.
Maybe that’s why we’re encouraged to slow down once in a while. When we’re rushing through life, we miss many of the moments our souls came here to enjoy.
Love Feels Different Here
Love exists in the spirit world, but human love has a different flavor. Holding your newborn for the first time, laughing so hard with a friend that your stomach hurts, feeling butterflies when you fall in love, or having someone squeeze your hand when you’re scared. These experiences carry an emotional richness that only exists because we’re human.
Even missing someone teaches us how deeply we’re capable of loving. Our relationships aren’t perfect, but that imperfection gives them depth. We learn forgiveness, patience, compassion, and vulnerability in ways that aren’t possible without living a human life.
Even the Hard Parts Have Value
I’m not saying suffering is enjoyable. If you’re walking through grief, illness, or heartbreak, I would never suggest you should be grateful for the pain itself.
But I do believe our souls see the full picture.
The difficult chapters often deepen our appreciation for the beautiful ones. After a long illness, feeling healthy again can feel miraculous. After loneliness, a genuine connection carries even more meaning. The contrast gives life its depth. Without winter, spring wouldn’t feel nearly as magical.
Your Soul Loves Wonder
Children seem to understand this instinctively. They’ll stop to watch an ant carry a crumb. They’ll stare at clouds and create stories about the shapes they see. They’ll spend an hour collecting interesting rocks that most adults walk right past.
Somewhere along the way, many of us become too busy to notice the little things. We rush from one responsibility to the next, barely seeing what’s around us. But wonder isn’t childish. It’s one of the purest expressions of being fully present, and I think our souls absolutely love those moments.
You Don’t Have to Earn Joy
Many people feel guilty when life is going well. They think they should always be improving themselves, healing another wound, or working toward another goal.
Growth is wonderful, but so is enjoying your life.
Watch the sunset. Bake something delicious. Spend an extra minute petting your dog. Listen to music that makes you want to sing along. Dance in your kitchen. Call someone who always makes you laugh.
These moments aren’t distractions from your spiritual path. They are part of it.
Before You Hurry to Tomorrow
It’s easy to spend our lives chasing the next milestone.
“When I retire…”
“When the kids are grown…”
“When I lose the weight…”
“When life settles down…”
But your soul isn’t waiting for the next chapter before it starts living. It’s here with you right now, enjoying the smell of your morning coffee, the sound of birds outside your window, the softness of a favorite blanket, and the smile from a stranger who happened to cross your path.
Those moments may seem ordinary, but to your soul they’re extraordinary.
So today, give yourself permission to notice one beautiful thing you would have overlooked yesterday. Your soul has been looking forward to this human adventure for a very long time. Don’t rush through it.
